Artwork Description:
The title of this fun loving etching is, BIG RED THE GIANT HUNTER. My image was inspired by a Swiss public sculpture in the city of Bern, which basically translates as Fountain of the Baby-Eater. It shows a giant ogre eating a naked child with another sack full of plump angelic-looking babies slung over his shoulder. No historians or art specialists are exactly sure of what this monument symbolizes, but folklorists offer a variety of possibilities. Some believe it portrays KRAMPUS, the DUTCH demonic Santa who punishes naughty children at Christmas. This intaglio etching, which is part of my series entitled MY JOURNEY BACK FROM MADNESS, outlines the horrors we find in fairy tales and folkloric narratives. The print is from Edition TWO of THREE, Print Number TWO of FIVE. The zinc plates employed for this work each measured FOUR inches high by SIX inches wide, or 10.160cm x 15.240cm, which makes the overall image 8.5 inches high by 6 inches wide, or 21cm x 15.240cm. The print is 11 inches wide by 15 inches high, or 27.940cm x 38.100cm. The media include three colors of French oil based etching ink, Rives BFK white paper, methylcellulose, and mulberry bark paper from Thailand infused with kozo threads.
Please note that this etching is shipped to the buyer without a frame or mat. This keeps the price reasonable and also allows the collector a wide range of choice in framing selection. For shipment, a sturdy cardboard box is employed. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping box and securely packed with bubble wrap. The ABSOLUTE ARTS DOT COM price does not include any shipment cost, but does include wrapping materials, handling, and shipment carton.
