Artwork Description:

Title BIG SUR IN GEO-NARRATIVE. Best Print from First Edition. This mixed technique etching was executed on four zinc plates that were placed next to each other in a horizontal line on the printing press to create a single image. It was inspired by an image from the US Library of Congress Prints and Pictures Department, Panoramic Photographs Collection, in Washington, D. C. The original photograph, a gelatin print created and published in 1907 was copyrighted by the Pillsbury Picture Company but presently has no known restrictions on publication. The work required nine plate workings and baths in nitric acid until I was satisfied with the final results. Media Black, French etching ink on Cream-colored etching paper, Stonehenge brand from U. K. The etching has four zinc plates, three of which measure 3 inches wide by 5 inches high and one plate that is 7 inches wide and 5 inches high. The Print measures about 22 inches wide by 9 inches high or 57.150 cm wide by 24.765 cm high. 58.420 cm. One zinc plate, six-inches high by nine inches wide, 15.24cm by 22.86cm, was employed. My studio methods included INTAGLIO, AQUATINT, DRYPOINT, and CHINE COLLE. The overall size of the image is the same as the zinc plate the paper measures 11 inches high by 15 inches wide 28cmx38cm. I used a black oil-based etching ink French and printed on RivesBFK white etching paper. A mulberry bark paper was employed in my CHINE COLLE process
. The image is based on one of my photographs taken in 1987, Paris. This is a One of a kind etching in that the chine colle series will be executed in different colors, each one differently from the other. Please note that this etching is shipped and sold to the buyer without a frame or mat. This keeps the price reasonable and also allows the collector a wide range of choice in framing selection. For shipment, a sturdy cardboard box is employed. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping box and securely packed with bubble wrap. The price does NOT shipment costs to the collector.
