Artwork Description:
This intaglio and aquatint etching by Gerard Jerry Di Falco is entitled, “Chartres Street in Magenta Dream”. It was adapted from a photograph by Howard Coleman, born in 1883 and died in 1969, and entitled, “Chartres Street from the Lower Pontalba Building gallery to Victors Café, corner of Toulouse Street”. The Coleman photo is part of Tulane University’s Library, Thelma Hecht Coleman Memorial Collection. One of the artist’s trademarks in etching, aside from his obsessive attention to detail in line work, involves the way he blends the genres of painting and printmaking to produce “a painterly” work. His ink-wiping techniques use several different tools, and consequently, his etchings take on the appearance of a monoprint. The zinc plate used by DiFalco for this etching measured eight inches wide by six inches high, which is also the image size of 20.320cm by 15.240cm. This etching is executed in a blend of French, oil base inks and printed on STONEHENGE cream colored paper from the UK. It was hand pulled by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia. This print is from the FIRST EDITION, which is limited to only FIVE numbered works per edition. THE PRICE INCLUDES A FRAME and MAT. THIS ETCHING SHIPPED IN A PROFESSIONAL CARDBOARD BOX PACKED WITH BUBBLE WRAP. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR ART ARRIVES WIRED AND HEADY TO HANG. A WALL HOOK AND NAIL ARE ALSO INCLUDED.
