Artwork Description:
This print is from the final edition of this work and has only five etching. The zinc plate employed for this work measured 6 inches high by 8 inches wide. The etching size is 11.25 inches high by 15 inches wide. The media include oil based black ink, RivesBFK white paper, and mulberry bark paper from Thailand. The studio techniques included Aquatint, Drypoint, Chine collé, and Intaglio. The work required five separate baths in Nitric acid. This DiFalco etching was inspired by and adapted from a photograph taken by Dennis Kovach in Valetta, Malta. The cathedral’s magical dome is known as The Rotunda of St Marija Assunta. During the Second World War the church was nearly destroyed when an Axis bomb pierced the dome of the church, but failed to detonate. Frame measures 16 by 12 inches.
