This hand pulled intaglio and aquatint etching is based upon my preliminary drawings that interpreted an original Ethiopian Gospel Manuscript from the Walters Museum of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. I hand print my etchings on a large professional press, which is a Charles Brand floor Press made in New York City. My interests in spirituality, art history, African art, and folk art inspired me to create this etching. It depicts my adaptation of an ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT GOSPEL PAGE executed in Northern Ethiopia around 500 BC. Its consistency in style is seen in the work’s abridged characterization with the face designs and the strong expression of line. The figures appear as columns sheathed in textile designs balanced against one another. My works in this edition, as in the others, were executed in my own blend of French, oil base etching inks mixed with 24-karat gold dust. Printing was done on STONEHENGE brand Kraft colored paper, made now in the USA. Image size is nine inches high by six inches wide. Frame is 12 by 16.
