Artwork Description:

This ethereal work on paper combines the genres of etching and monoprinting. Three zinc plates were worked via the techniques of intaglio and drypoint and positioned on the Charles Brand Printing Press bed in a vertical format. I created two drawings based upon a late 17th Century photograph to prepare me for this etching. I found the photo during research into The Cornell University Library, from the A. D. White Architectural Photographs Collection. The antique photo titled FLORENCE, THE UFFIZI GALLERY AND PALAZZO VECCHIO was taken by Giacomo Brogi between 1865 and 1881. Moreover, this photo documents this plaza when the Michelangelo sculpture, David, stood outdoors exposed to the environment. My enigmatic work on paper was hand printed and published at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which is associated with both the Fleisher Art School and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the cost of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added. Only ten of these etchings currently exist now in Edition One. I shall create the remaining editions at the most opportune Cabbalistic planetary times. The image is acid etched on three individual zinc plates, that each measure 7 inches wide by 5 inches high. A small space separates each plate. The overall image measures 15.5 inches high by seven inches wide. The unframed print size is 20.5 inches high by 11.5 inches wide, or 51.25 x 28.75 cm. Media include oil based etching inks on RivesBFK white paper, all manufactured in France.
