Artwork Description:

This is the second print of five in the THIRD Edition of Three Editions. All THREE EDITIONS are limited to only five prints each. This zinc-plate etching incorporates the studio techniques of INTAGLIO, AQUATINT, and DRYPOINT. It is executed in oil-based colored inks a combination of US and French on Rives BFK paper France. This is the second print of five in the First Edition of Three Editions. All EDITIONS are limited to only five prints per edition. The work was hand-printed by the artist on a heavy-duty Strand press manual at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania US. The image size and size of the zinc plate used measured 8-inches high by 6-inches wide 20.320cm x 15.240cm. The paper print size is 11-inches wide by 15-inches high 27.940cm x 38.100cm. This work was inspired by a photograph by lesbian-artist, Frances Benjamin Johnson. She took the full length self portrait in 1896 in her D. C. studio. Johnson lived most of her life in New Orleans, but also had a photographic studio in Washington, DC. The work, from the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Archives ishows the photographer seated in front of fireplace, facing left, and holding cigarette in one hand with a beer stein in the othe. Call Number LOT 11734-1 item PP. Johnson was noted for her work with the Carnegie Foundation and her photographs of architecture in the US South. She was born in 1864 and died in 1952. There is a psychic connection between her and DiFalco, and he has created several etchings based on her photography. For shipment, a sturdy cardboard box is employed. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping box and securely packed with bubble wrap. The price does not include any shipment costs.
