It is from The Carnegie Collection of Southern Architecture Collection and depicts an 1890s French Quarter in New Orleans. The photo was by artist Frances Benjamin Johnson, born in 1864 and died in 1952, one of the first prominent women photographers of the Nineteenth Century. The etching examines the architecture, history and culture of New Orleans. Media include oil based etching ink, RivesBFK white paper, mulberry bark paper, and methyl cellulose. The print is the Second Best out of five in EDITION FOUR OF FOUR. All works were hand printed by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. The zinc etching plate measured 9 inches high by 6 inches wide, and the print measures eleven inches by fifteen inches.
