Artwork Description:

This ETCHING includes the printmaking techniques of intaglio, drypoint, Chine colle, and aquatint. I executed the print in black oil-based printing ink on Rives BFK white paper. I used three separate zinc plates, lined horizontally on the press, to create one printed image. The work also uses three different colors of hand-dyed mulberry bark paper from Thailand in the Chine colle process. As in all of my etchings, several workings of each plate took place in an acid bath in combination with both hard and soft grounds. Each plate measures four inches high by three inches wide. The print measures 8 inches high by 14 inches wide. The print was inspired by a photograph I shot in 1973 of a LATE-1950s restaurant in Cherry Hill, NJ called THE HAWAIIAN COTTAGE, noted for its kitsch architecture and pineapple shaped roof. The photo was part of a presentation I did for the seminar THE PHENOMENOLOGY OF RELIGION, taught by Dr. Rev. Hugh White, at Rutgers University Camden City campus. Please note that this etching is shipped and sold to the buyer without a frame or mat. This keeps the price reasonable and also allows the collector a wide range of choice in framing selection. For shipment, a sturdy cardboard box is employed. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping box and securely packed with bubble wrap. The price does NOT shipment costs to the collector.
