Artwork Description:

This intaglio and dry point etching is the SECOND of FOUR editions. It was hand printed and published by the artist in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, The etchig was executed in three oil based, colored etching inks from Paris, France, on cream colored STONEHENGE paper from England. The work is the second in a series that was inspired by the German film METROPOLIS. This 1927 silent film by Fritz Lang is one of the finest examples of German Expressionist cinema. Moreover, this film contributed new levels of fine art to the future and history of cinematic techniques. This marathon film, which blends science fiction with religion and politics, takes place in the future year of 2026 C. E. and examines a megalithic urban scenario ruled by billionaires, industrialists, and corporate kings. The amazing sets were heavily influenced by the visual artistic movements of Futurism, Cubism, and Bauhaus. The script, written by Lang and his wife, Thea von Harbou, starred Gustav Frohlich, Brigitte Helm, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, and Alfred Abel. The groundbreaking special effects were unlike any previously shown in a film. DiFalco executed his etching on two separate zinc plates, each measuring four inches wide by five inches high, or 10.160 cm by 12.700cm. Therefore the overall visual image measures eight inches wide by five inches high, or 20.320 cm by 12.700cm wide. The paper size is about twelve inches by ten inches, or 30.480cm by 25.400cm. Five separate Nitric acid baths were required for the final etched design. This print, from the FIRST Edition of Four Editions, is limited to only five prints. THIS WORK OF FINE ART IS SHIPPED TO THE COLLECTOR WITHOUT A FRAME OR MAT. THE SHIPMENT MATERIALS ARE HEAVY WEIGHT AND PROFESSIONAL. THE ETCHING IS FIRST WRAPPED IN ARCHIVAL GLASSINE AND THEN PLACED BETWEEN TWO ACID FREE BOARDS. THIS IS THEN PLACED IN A PROFESSIONAL CARDBOARD SHIPMENT BOX, WHICH IS PACKED WITH BUBBLE WRAP. THE SHIPMENT PRICE IS ADDED TO THE SALE PRICE.
