Artwork Description:

THIS ETCHING IS SOLD WITH BOTH A FRAME, 16 INCHES WIDE BY 20 INCHES HIGH, AND MAT. THE BLACK WOOD FRAME INCLUDES AN ACID FREE, WHITE MAT. THE ARTWORK ARRIVES WIRED AND READY TO HANG. This etching was inspired by my series executed between 1996 and 2006 based on All Hallows Eve. Those works, mostly large acrylic paintings on stretched canvases and monoprints in wood block inks, celebrated the obscurity, bloodcurdling, and mischievous spirituality involved in Halloween. All of these cartoon like works, which used my previously established unconventional palette combinations and off-color humor, were sold to collectors around the word. I suddenly had the inclination to begin exploring my GOTH POP genre again, although in etchings on paper and oil based inks. I employed one zinc plate for this etching, which measured 8 inches wide by 10 inches high, or 20.320cm by 25.400cm. The plate required seven workings with etching tools in conjunction with seven baths in Nitric acid. The studio techniques I used included aquatint, intaglio, Chine colle, and drypoint. The media included oil based etching ink and RivesBFK white paper, both from France. A mulberry bark paper from Thailand, infused with Japanese kozo threads and treated with home made methyl cellulose, allowed the color overlays in the printing process to be so vibrant. Seventeen individual pieces of hand cut mulberry bark papers were all placed on the inked plate and hand dampened with water before I ran the plate through the press. I hand printed and published this edition of five etchings in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at The Center for Works on Paper. I used a large freestanding STAND model floor press whose bed is about 40 inches by sixty inches. This is the First of Four Editions. Each edition will be limited to only five etchings. Moreover, each of the four editions will be executed in different ink colors printed on varying brands of etching papers.
