Artwork Description:
This etching uses the printmaking techniques of aquatint, intaglio, and dry-point and is executed in oil based etching ink on Stonehenge black paper. The print size is approximately 13 inches x 15 inches the zinc plate I used and consequent image size is 8 inches high by 10 inches wide. This hand pulled etching is inspired by an albumin print from 1895 within the A. D. White Architectural Photographs Collection at Cornell University Library. It features the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, which was constructed between 1163 to 1345. My addition and manipulation of clouds was employed to poeticize the image and balance the tonal areas of light and dark. This print is from the SECOND of four editions of ten prints per edition. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in matt selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added.
