Artwork Description:

Pictured here is a print from the FOURTH EDITION. Pictured here is a print from the SECOND EDITION. The media for this multiple plate, etching includes RivesBFK white paper, oil based ink from Paris, and hand-dyed mulberry bark paper from Thailand. The studio techniques employed included INTAGLIO, AQUATINT, DRYPOINT, and CHINE COLLE. The artist manually printed the editions on a large STRAND flatbed press at The Center for Works on Paper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA as part of The Open Studio In Printmaking. All editions are published by the artist. The artist used six separate Nitric acid baths in the etching process before reaching the work’s desired design. Each print took hours to produce, partially due to the fact that the artist stenciled and cut nine individual pieces of acetate to create nine cut mulberry bark papers for each print. This etching is based on a photograph that the artist took in Paris in 1987. It required four individual zinc plates, stacked in a vertical row on the printing press bed. Each plate measured three-inches high by four-inches wide, which made the overall image about twelve-and-one-half inches high by four inches wide. In metric terms, this translates to an individual plate size of 7.6200 centimeters high by 10.160 centimeters wide. The print is between eighteen or twenty-two inches high by ten inches wide, or 45.720 or 55.880 centimeters by 25.400 centimeters. Pictured here is a print from the THIRD EDITION. THIS WORK OF FINE ART IS SHIPPED TO THE COLLECTOR WITH A FRAME AND ALREADY MATTED.
