Artwork Description:

This print uses the etching techniques of intaglio, dry-point, Chine colle, and aquatint. I used oil base Charbonnel brand ink from France and RivesBFK white paper. A mulberry bark paper from Thailand, treated with methylcellulose, was used in the Chine colle overlay process. This etching is from the second of two editions, which is limited to only five prints. The image is taken from a single frame in the 1960 Jean Cocteau film entitled, Le testament d Orphée, whose original title was, “Le testament d Orphée, ou ne me demandez pas pourquoi”. Cocteau directed and starred in this film, which is the last part of THE ORPHIC TRILOGY. NOTE-The first film was the 1930 one entitled, The Blood of a Poet. The second film of the trilogy was, ORPHÉE, made in 1950. The cast of the final movie in the series included Charles Aznavour, Lucia Bosé, Maria Casarès, Nicole Courcel, Luis Miguel Dominguín, Daniel Gélin, Jean-Pierre Léaud, Serge Lifar, Jean Marais, François Périer, and, Françoise Sagan. Cameo appearances were also made by Pablo Picasso and Yul Brynner. The film is shot in black and white, yet has a few seconds of colors edited into it. Le testament d Orphée involves the metaphysical elements of time travel, dream consciousness, and death rebirthit also deals with Gods and Goddesses, the law, and the poet’s visionary insights into everything. The image size is nine inches high by six inches wide22.5 cm x 15 cmprint size is fifteen inches high by eleven inches wide31.8 cm x 37.5 cm.
