Artwork Description:

THIS ORIGINAL DIFALCO ETCHING IS SOLD ALREADY FRAMED UNDER GLASS AND MATTED IN AN ACID FREE, WHITE MAT. THE 14 INCH HIGH BY 11 INCH WIDE FRAME IS COMPOSED OF BLACK PAINTED WOOD, AND IS WIRED AND READY TO HANG. This original etching employed the studio techniques of aquatint, intaglio, and Chine colle. It was based on a photograph taken by the artist in Segovia, Spain1990. A stork nesting on a roof chimney is quite a normal sight in Segovia, as in other European cities. The artist captured this image very close to the ancient Roman aqueduct and moreover, the nesting bird had settled on a friend’s restaurant noted for its baby suckling pigs roasted in a wood fired oven. The etching is executed on two zinc plates to give the illusion of looking at the scene through a window, one of DiFalco’s trademarks in intaglio. Each plate is 4 inches by 3inches high, making the overall image 4 inches wide by 6.20 inches high, or about 10 by 16 cm. This is print number one of the SECOND edition of four, and each edition is limited to only five etchings. This work was manually printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper, 705 Christian Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US. The media include oil-based etching ink from Paris, RivesBFK white paper, also French, and mulberry bark paper, which was used in the Chine colle process.
