Artwork Description:

This etching, entitled Cathdrale Notre Dame de Amien, employs the techniques of aquatint, intaglio, and drypoint on two zinc plates, which each measure 6 inches high by 9 inches wide. The overall printed image of this vertical diptych measures 9 inches wide by 12 inches high, or approximately 23 cm wide by 31 cm high. The print size is 15 inches wide by 16 inches high, or 38.1 cm x 41 cm. I blended oil based French etching inks to produce a glistening rose madder and printed on Pescia gray printmaking paper, from the original Italian paper mill that is hundreds of years old, for this limited second edition of five prints. There will only be six editions of of this etching. My etched image of the cathedral in Amiens, France, was inspired by an original albumen print from 1858 created by Louis-Auguste, born in 1814 and died in 1876, and Bisson Freres, born in 1826 and died in 1900. Bisson worked under the artistic name of Bisson Freres, meaning The Bisson Brothers. This photo I adapted via several original drawings is from Cornell University Library, A. D. White Architectural Photographs Collection. Eight separate working and baths in Nitric acid were required for both zinc plates to obtain my final design. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in matt selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the coast of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added.
