Artists Describing Their Art:

John Dahlsen - As you can see on my website:

Robert Raikes - We are all enigmas cast upon a sea of moments, our moments, beautiful shells washed upon a shore of light to be found by those leaving footprints on the sand of life. Beauty to be grasped between the waves....

Geert Vanderplancke - SCULPTING IS FOR ME THE CONQUERING OF SPACE WITHOUT LOSING THE SPIRITUAL CONTENTS OF EACH VOLUME OUT OF LIGHT.MY TOTEM-LIKE SCULPTURES RISE LIKE GHOSTS FROM THE INGNEOUS GROUND AND EVOKE, BY THE MATERIAL THAT IS USED,BY THE VERTICAL STRUCTURES AND THE EXOTIC MOTIVES,ASSOCIATIONS XITH THE "PRIMITIVE"ART OF BLACK AFRICA. I'M ALSO FASINATED BY THE NORTH SEA....

Max Tolentino - I do not think of art as a rationalization of an artistic thought or perhaps I am not still able to think this way. What fascinates me is the exercise of art; it is doing something that can express my personal point of view of things and the perception and the expression of the world as I see. Anything that carries human significance may cause me an emotion with the same intensity that I see at any museum in the world. Art is an emotional and intellectual product to me. Since my late starting in arts I have been sculpting my way in the artistic scenario with a differenced curiosity so that my overture to this environment gives me a privileged position. Doubts - no doubt - will arise, as my works transit between the formalism and the concept, between the beautiful and the political in art. But the doubts belong more to the one who sees then to me. Maybe I want to go further than the cultural concepts i?1/2 not that I pay much attention to it - but perhaps one day appreciating from outside I may glimpse a chance to be inside thus contributing in a certain way to this world ...

Stefan Van Der Ende - My sculptures are Solutions for Non/existing Problems . Now is the time to collect them. They are rare and unique ,and there are not many of them , also due to the big amount of time it takes to make the biggerones in wood and stone . They are made dreaming/thinking and working intensively , whith the intention to be able communicate emotion through their abstract/associative visual appearence which relate to subconcious processes in the human mind .(specialy mine ofcourse ) There are often more pictures of one sculpture , because ,as you know you have to see sculptures from more sides , to get a good impression .

Mrs. Mathew Sumich - Mathew Sumich passed away in late 2012. His work is available through Judith Sumich or the Michael H. Lord Gallery, Palm Springs, CA. The following statement is in his own words: "The focus of my work - whether non-commissioned or commissioned - is to work with basic elements such as line, form, color, texture, etc., and to apply them to the principles of design, e.g., dealing with proportion, subordination, rhythm, balance, opposition, transition, harmony and contour continuation, and to deal with different media, e.g., steel, glass, paint, wood, cement, etc., and to find potential uses of the media, taking into consideration its use in the environment in which it is to be located. My interests have always been with line and plane - the first elements of drawing. Line creates plane, plane creates depth, plane can advance or recede by the use of color. My art is fundamental, basic, simple design principles in action. Using structural design principles and having a good understanding of the environment, I am able to take any media - steel, glass, wood, clay, canvas - and create 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, or 4 dimensional (adding the dimension of time) objects. The final form, be it a painting, ...

Mrs. Mathew Sumich - Tzipi Biran - I try to express the feminine experience as a complete individual that is constantly engaged in fulfilling her independence and femininity. Parallel to this, I emphasize the potential of a harmonious and holistic connection within a nourishing, supporting and creative relationship between a couple, a promoting and protective partnership within a spiritual and physical connection. The figures in my works are like the dance of life in which the steps of one are adjacent, connecting, opposing, and supporting to that of others, creating a changing and constant movement. ...

Dave Martsolf - Dave Martsolf I have a hand-drawing personal style that I love, but also use photorealistic collage style for some surreal work. In addition, I continue to enjoy explorations in every direction. My surreal visionary style is conceived in the bowels of endless empty space. Worlds come out of nowhere to define and fill empty space with form and reflected light. I use posed photographs with specific viewpoints that join seamlessly with other images to develop a hallucinogenic, some say gut-wrenching realistic space where mind-bending visions rule. My personal drawing style is in its simplest essence the line the drawn line and what it represented as the delineation of a form, a space, almost the way a topographical line feels out the form of a hill, or the way a blind man feels out the tender forms of his or her lover. That line is also the signature of the vibration of life and lifes emotions, twisted by the influence of others, fighting for a day in the sun, learning the way of calm, the mastery of the surf of life and the swell of love and anger. Brownian motion, cosmic ray decay, elemental particles, the paths of ...

Cecile Tissot - Statement in English and French/ Presentation en anglais et francais * * * * * * * * * * * * Born in 1970, currently lives and works in Paris and Boulogne-Billancourt. I have been sculpting for about 15 years, after I discovered carving in London in 1997. I have been since then following a personal way in sculpture, mostly in stone and wood carving. I also work directly in nature through landart projects. Most of my works deal with the sacred, emptiness, traces, and link presence and absence - I attempt to emphasise the shy, the almost-nothing, the sensitive. My latest works tend towards verticality and nomadism, in an attempt to create, through their installation, ephemerical holy places - small or big.
