Artwork Description:
The Lady of Justice with its combination of highly detailed drapery and smooth flat areas, evokes an image of ancient Grecian relief sculptures,- perhaps of ruins pieced back together.
The image is of a strong, mature female figure described by sumptuous robes. Her face feet and hands are devoid of detail, indicating no specific age, race or religion. The Victorian Southern Cross is at her side and therefore she becomes the image of fairness and equality and justice in this state.
This is the identity piece for the Victorian County Court in Melbourne, Australia. It hangs above the front entrance and is an impressive 6 metres in height and is made from cast sections of drapery and flat plate aluminium.
