Artwork Description:   Referencing Cellini�s �Perseus�, as he slays the Gorgon, this contemporary sculpture addresses the timeless theme of heroes against adversity. This youth tackles a particularly slimy challenge. Cast in urethane and studded with rhinestones these modern materials imitate and comment on bronze Victoriana and the tradition of ornamentation and serious art materials. Fantasy and the childhood image of an equestrian lad mounted atop his mollusc steed are inverted and hence reinterpret these memories and associations. The campy eroticisation of the mythic is playfully explored in this seemingly traditional sculpture
