Artists Describing Their Art:

Skip Bleecker - Art Forms Most of my work consists of wheel thrown porcelain forms based on organic patterns of microscopic and macroscopic organisms. Some are based on seed pods, teeth, pollen, sea animals, squash, and even watermelon, but as the development proceeds, they merge and take on new forms of possible and imaginary organisms. All are hand made, one of a kind pieces, usually done in a series, so there might be some similarity among some pieces, but no two are ever exactly alike. Seed Pods For most of my life, I have been both attracted to and very allergic to, large numbers of trees, grasses, and bushes. I have refused to become trapped indoors just because of these allergies, and as I began to develop my own sculptural forms, I examined both macroscopic and microscopic forms in nature. By examining the form and structure of seeds and other natural objects, I found great beauty in these simple forms, and developed simple organic sculptural designs, based on slightly abstract versions of these natural objects. ...

Bobbie Newman - BOBBIE NEWMAN - CHICAGO SCULPTOR I sculpt scenes to express the beauty of human beings in a simple moment, and also scenes which depict my own revelations about life. I hope you enjoy them. I'm happy to do a commission from a photo of anything you may desire: A house, a pet, a person. I can also help you create the idea for depicting your subject. Please contact me to see more work and answer any questions. My work has been sold in Chicago at Objects, Joy Horwich, Merrill Chase Water Tower Place, Chiaroscuro, Erie Street Gallery and Lill Street Gallery....

Win Peterman - Artist Statement "Alice in Wonderland" as a child that is how I felt looking at the drawings, paintings and sculpture in my Uncle's shop. When I become absorbed in creating, the same wondrous childhood feeling - my "magic moment" takes over. Like Alice, I am propelled along the path, capturing unexpected delights. My goal is to spark the "magic moment" feeling in those viewing my art by pulling them in-capturing their minds, hearts and emotions. I grew up surrounded by nature in the Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania. When I was 8 years old I experienced an overwhelming need to capture the image of a deer. Only after I drew the deer did the "feeling" recede. I can still see the deer as if the incident happened yesterday. That awakening, so hard to describe, lives within me and I call it my "magic moment". My inspiration comes from the world around me. Nothing gives me more delight than to capture a "magic moment" and find that people viewing my art experience a similar feeling. A teacher once told me that most people are either two dimensional or three dimensional. She said I was both, which was very unusual. I find ...

Pirjo Eronen - I am a Finnish Ceramic Artist living and working in a small town Tolfa about 70 km North of Rome in Italy. In this peaceful and beatiful Etruscian hillarea I have built my studio, where I create functional and non-functional works using basicly Limoge-porcelain and stoneware clays. Most of my works are eather slip-casted or mold-pressed,but I also enjoy doing experiments with different kind of clays and working methods,as well as firing techniques such as Raku- and primitive-firing. One can notice a strong Scandinavian,Finnish, influence in my works, but there is also a slight Mediterranean touch as well.Through my works I try to speak about my experiences and memories, where the nature is always present. I also offer in my studio various types of ceramic courses and workshops for professional and beginners.I enjoy to collaborate with other ceramists and art fields to be able to share experiences and get new ideas. I have studied ceramics boath in Finland and in Italy.I am a member of the Finnish Association of Artists and Designers.Since 1998 I have partecipated in several personal and selected group exhibitions in Italy and abroad....

Emilio Merlina - I was born in 1950 in the North East of Italy from a polish mother and a sicilian father. I toured the world until I was 35, then I returned to Italy and picked up again my old passion painting and sculpture. As for myself, I can only say thoughts and paintings, paintings and thoughts. Everything maybe useless, however everything is life. i?1/2The human being leaves its signs, graffiti, indian dreams and imagination. Now I only have left a few more possibilities to express the colors which are not. Only the sign, scratched, angry or brushed is the witness. The sign has passed from there and there it has lived.i?1/2 Emilio Merlina Some hear if a door opens Others hear a latch which opens or closes Others more they hear the Angel when he turns over a page of the Great Book From the novel Missa Sine Nomine By Ernst Wiechert I have words which relegate my hunger And the hunger which owns my body but which do not confine them I have words which are both my confined hunger and body By the Italian poetess Paola Lovisolo ...
