  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Alexey Klimov - ARTIST STATEMENT I think that absolute freedom in art is no more than a mirage. Like a vanishing point, not only it is not achievable, but also constant strive for being totally uninhibited fundamentally contradicts the very nature of art. I discovered that by trying to free myself I instead only created un-freedom within, but at the same time I recognized it as a blessing because this un-freedom, to my great surprise, flowered into my very own freedom. I built my personal space inside it, I fenced in all I was made of and then I gladly confined myself into this space and opened all the windows to share whataEURtms inside with others. This is the moment of great joy for me because this space has never existed before I have created it. Not unlike theater, my work attempts to counterpart outside reality with no ambition to compete with it. It is just a window into my parallel world, my very own, not so little Universe. ...

Robbie O Carroll - When I Graduated from Harvard University my sculpturing followed the traditional cubist approach, but over time the wood started to dictate its own direction and continues that way today. Sometime I will look at a piece of wood, or the combination of pieces of wood, for over a year before it comes to me what its final shape should be and even then it continues to change during the sculpturing process. Someone once called my work enigmatic, and maybe it is, because that is what interests me, the indescribable mystery that can only be revealed in a work of Art. ...

Christophe Charbonnel - Born in 1967, Christophe Charbonnel was a designer at Walt Disney Studios in France. Taught by Philippe SeenA(c) at the DuperrA(c) School in the'90s, Christophe Charbonnel created his first bronze in 1992. He has exhibited his work publicly since 1998, mostly in Paris, but also in Saint Tropez, Cannes, Strasbourg and Lille in France; and also in Anvers and LiA"ge in Belgium, among many other cities. Thanks to his exhibits at Le Ritz Palace in Paris and The Four Seasons Palace in Cannes, Christophe Charbonnel has become ever more acclaimed in France, and recently he became LAUREAT of the Taylor Foundation. Christophe Charbonnel is one of the most popular artists in France and his works are a good investment. His renown is beginning to spread outside of Europe and an illustrious future is expected for him....

Julia Cake - Julia Cake: Sculptress Born: 1973 in Monaco Currently Living in England Introduction Julia's passion for sculpting began when she was 16 after an accident cut short a holiday from another of her true passions, skiing. She enrolled in the famous Beaux Art academy in France to more fully express what was already an over whelming artistic flair. She decided to move into the three-dimensional world of sculpting. This dynamic gave Julia the release she needed to allow her artistic ideas to flow. These ideas when suppressed in earlier years were sometimes misunderstood by those around her, who would comment that Julia's introspective behavior perhap's required a quite different therapy. Her first ever piece "Trois Elephants" was judged 2nd place at an international exhibition in Cannes. She was just 17 years old. From clay she moved into marble, which soon became the stone for which Julia's passion raged. Born in Monaco and growing up in the French Riviera, Julia was able to drive into Italy to hand pick the most beautiful pieces of naturally formed marble to work with. This is what developed her most sought after talent; the ability to take a stone and transform ...

Susan Freda - Transparency and flowing line, the play of cast shadows and light on a wall, sparkling, subtle states of being that invoke intimate, emotive responses. I imbue my pieces with an ephemeral presence and ability to catch and hold the light. Created from hand woven wire and glass, these pieces envelope viewers in a seductive, entranced space. Their transparent and intricate forms and jewel-like nature are unapologetic in their beauty. I am inspired by numerous varied sources, some of which include: Giacomettis stretched and elongated figures, Judi Pfaff's installations and deft use of material; and the sculptures of Anish Kapoor. My work explores the transient, poetic, and ephemeral experiences of our world--intimacy, emotion, and reflection, and offers a space for their cosnideration....

Anh Tran - My sculpture addresses a symbolic language: visually - Symbol, Material, and Fragment as metaphor to represent on human value of legend, history, culture, and myth. It is an interaction sculpture space in which the viewers are invited to actively engage as a means of completing the artwork. My work mainly is the installation and concept work inheriting value of traditional sculptures. Currently, I pay attention on human relationships - the main subject matter that presents in work at different levels from the relationship of people to people; between human beings to nature; the bond of people to God in timeless. Men of all ages experience the same knotty relationship that comes from the endless struggle for life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness. On my experience I think that each person lives in a knot of relationships, bearing the traces of successes and failures, love and loss, generosity and vileness, pleasure and pain, happiness and misfortune, in an ever changing, yet repetitious cycle. Relationships are continually changing -- expanding and contracting as they are being formed, challenged, mended, healed, maintained, and even ended in both time and space. In general, I think of human life and relationships as being fragmented forms as well. ...

Tzipi Biran - I try to express the feminine experience as a complete individual that is constantly engaged in fulfilling her independence and femininity. Parallel to this, I emphasize the potential of a harmonious and holistic connection within a nourishing, supporting and creative relationship between a couple, a promoting and protective partnership within a spiritual and physical connection. The figures in my works are like the dance of life in which the steps of one are adjacent, connecting, opposing, and supporting to that of others, creating a changing and constant movement. ...
