Artwork Description:
Ecce Omo... Behold Man. The harlequin looks at you as you do at him... forming grand opinions on the basis of very little knowledge. He knows little about you, yet his expression is of the confidence born of ignorance. How quick will you be to invent his story to satisfy your own needs?
Somebody sent me a small piece of Paros marble, so I made the head, hands and feet out of it and cast the body in bronze. It's illegal to use this material as the quarry is an archeological site, but I didn't know this when I made the piece, and it would be pointless for me to do much besides appreciating the rare experience of carving it. It is the finest marble I've ever used.
