Artwork Description:

This is a detail of a 5-piece sculpture. This piece was done for a themed show titled "Boundaries", at the Zeitgeist Gallery in Cambridge, MA, summer 2000. The show was a collaborative effort between my artists' group, 9yds., and artists in prison. I gathered responses to the theme of imprisonment off of an internet youth site, and printed the stories. I fragmented and bound the text in soft forms made of polyfil, plastic film, thread and hair. These forms are housed in aluminum institutional bowls. The forms are very inviting to touch and explore, especially with the text. However, each bowl is sealed invisibly with a tight layer of plastic film... thus, access is denied.
