Traditional Chinese LIU CHING (skin-reserve)bamboo carving features in the employment of the technique to remove skilfully part of the bamboo skin and carve into different depth to obtain main shapes or pictorial motifs of the composition. The reserved skin is smooth and delicate and its light yellowish color stays for a long time. The inside layers then turn into dark mahogany reddish-brown color or reddish amber-like color when specimen grow older. Such contrast of color bring to the art piece an appealing appearance.
