Artwork Description:

This work was inspired by my working travels to South Asia where I created metal masks in response to the culture. Anarkali was a dancing girl in the court of the Moghul Emperor, Akbar who fell in love with his son, Selim (later to become the Emperor Jehangir). Although they had a short-lived romance, Selim never forgot her and upon becoming Emperor, erected a monument in her honor.
