Dynamic abstract sculpture composed with several redwood burls that have been carved with chain saws, shaped with grinders and hand crafted to further enhance the natural forms. As this sculpture is viewed from one side to the other, the observer will see a distinct transformation in the wood characteristics. From left to right, the front of the composition begins with polished, boldly faceted forms on one side which gradually soften and become contrasting gnarled burl wood formations that are visually organic. Transition represents an abstract representation of a metamorphosis.
After thorough sanding, the wood designs are assembled with multiple steel rods and sprayed with a durable clear oil. Finally the smooth surfaces are hand rubbed, producing a matte finish revealing all the natural wood colors and exotic grain patterns. Due to the nature of redwood burls, each sculpture is totally unique and cannot be duplicated. Although it is possible to create similar designs, they will never be exactly the same. The natural redwood used to create these sculptures has been reclaimed from the underground portions of fallen trees which have been victimized from winter storms, landslides or forest fires, therefor no living trees have been utilized.
All sculptures are signed and numbered by Daryl Stokes and include an artist certificate of authenticity.
