Artwork Description:
Every time I walked to Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur from the Klang bus station a flower shop at one corner of the street often caught my attention. There were many interesting aspects to make the shop as a subject of my painting. One day I happened to be in the vicinity of the shop after a heavy downpour. I loved the reflection on the wet tarmac. I enjoyed seeing the tenderness and the freshness of bouquets of flowers touched by the humid air. I took a snap of the location. It became a beautiful photograph, which I kept in a photo album and left it forgotten. After a couple of years, one day I passed by the corner again but to my astonishment the flower shop was no more there. Luckily I found the photograph of the flower shop in one of my photo albums. I used it to assist me to paint one of my favourite spots in Kuala Lumpur.
I worked on this painting using acrylic colours on canvas. I applied acrylic colours using watercolour technique hoping to capture the subtle shades of nature and the ever-changing quality of light. I painted using colours in stages to bring about my desired results. After layering the base colours I began to daub parts of the painting with pigments of analogous colours to bring about a more harmonic effect.
