  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Ione Citrin - Ione is an avant garde artist whose artistic expression takes fantastic shape through her diverse oil and watercolor paintings, bronze sculptures, found object collages and mixed media assemblages. Her paintings and sculptures range from abstract to realistic to impressionistic - all visionary interpretations from her imaginative soul. "When I paint, I dip my brush in my soul... Being an Artist is a life force, not a career choice. Each piece represents a fragment of my life's work. I present the world artistically as I see it, as I wish to see it, and occasionally as I once saw it. You see, It is my identity. Without this expression of self, I am nothing. Through my art I give love." Ione uses only one name but a variety of styles to soothe her wild imagination. A native of Chicago, she is a former television star and commercial voice-over artist. Now she wins awards and sells her creativity through her hands instead of through her larynx. Her art is as original as she is - bold, colorful and highly decorative....

Matthew Hickey - Matthew Hickey is a 38 year old artist originally from Levittown, New York. He graduated with honors from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan in 1995. He lives and works in the northeast of England, and his work is featured in private collections worldwide. Figure paintings as well as portraiture and landscape are the focus of Hickey's career, offering a prevailing and unique insight into the optical nuances of this new century. Commissions and studio visits are always welcome at Hickey Studio. Call or email for inquiries, questions, comments. ...

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

Mos Riera - In 1960 a collective of musicians leadered by Ornette Coleman who added to their music the intrinsic freedom in the jazz.He broke harmonic molds that there was establishing that the improvisation was establishing on the chords and destroyed the concept of the melody using sonorities that up to that one moment, only they were deserving the contemptuous epithet of cacophonies he altered the rhythmic metrics, canonical base of the jazz without losing the swing which up to this moment was looking like an absurdity and he was leaving freedom in order that his musicians were advancing for his norm that the attention to a luck of emotional community, this aspect that would come to the paroxysm on their disc Free Jazz recorded for Atlantic. Now, when all things must pass by computer screenas Nam June Paik predicted. When virtuality is a part of human real things, when histories in the press are not trustthe document more new today and the oldest the day after. Music, Art, Literature and Cinema industries are changing. Words like download, chat, e-mail, hard disc and windows are accepted throughout the world. Now when deep blue wins chess game to humans, when mobile phones ...

Karen Isailovic - Four years ago I wrote: "I feel better when I paint. Period." My sentiment has not changed one bit. I am motivated by this unquenchable thirst for learning, for change, for newness. Although change is often discomforting, I know the secret to my personal happiness is constant change. I do not do well sitting idle. Painting and creating are the tools I depend upon which guarantee my changing, evolving, and progressing as a human being. On the surface, I continue to be inspired mainly by color, which I take full advantage of with my palette. On the subsurface, I wish to convey truth and honesty in my work - through my interpretation of whatever the subject matter may be. These are vague terms appropriately describing intangibles. Discovering the essence of things is my passion - putting it on canvas is MY essence. ...

Diane Kastensmith Bradbury - I love the spontaneity and freshness of watercolor - especially the "accidental" movement of color that results from painting wet into wet. I usually start with a wet into wet technique, and work through all the stages of the paper, until I am painting wet into dry. I often soak the painting in the bathtub overnight to soften the edges and lighten the colors, going back in the next day to sharpen details and brighten or darken colors where needed. I repeat this process until I can see that the painting is finished. I believe the record for the number of times this was done was a painting I sold in 1985, called "Blue Tree". It had been soaked twenty-two times before I was satisfied with the result. Of course, high quality paint and paper are essential to this process. "Seasons ...

Roderick Brown - Roderick (Rod) Brown was born in Western Australia. Rod spent his first 30 years in an arid and remote gold mining town. As a youngster he remembers the great freedom he enjoyed surrounded by the stark but vivid images of the mines and surrounding bush, which he regularly explored. Rod as a child watched his father paint in oils and sketch, in charcoal and ink, portraits of local identities. The early seeds to later pursue art were sown at this time. Rod has enjoyed living with his family in Australia, Europe and the USA. During this time he has visited over 40 countries around the world enriching his life and building on the foundations acquired in his hometown, which was a very multicultural society. Rod decided to explore his artistic leanings taking up oil painting while living in Sydney. At that time Rod was a member of the Castle Hill Art Society and The Hornsby Art Society. Rod took up watercolour painting in the early 1980's, which has been his preferred medium since. Rod has exhibited at many public shows particularly while living in Sydney and has over the years painted commissioned portraits. Rod has paintings in corporate and ...
