Artwork Description:

Creating whimsical stained glass is one of my favorite undertakings. This artwork, depicting The Beatles from the movie Yellow Submarine, is a classic example of art that puts a smile on the face of all who see it. While this artwork is as impressive as anything I've made in the last five years, the photo you see here is rather poor, and I will replace it with a better photo once I find a place to show this fantastic example of Beatles art, and I am able to take a better photo. The Beatles, themselves, are copper foiled in order to achieve very thin leadlines. Their faces are lead and zinc overlays wherever the facial features could not be done as separate pieces of glass (for instance, Ringo and Paul's faces are all overlays, John's glasses and nose are separate pieces of glass but his eyes and moustache are overlays, and George's face has no overlays except for his pupils and coat buttons). I used sticky foam (the kind you use to attach a soapdish to your bathroom tile) to attach the facial features that don't touch any other lines. The thickness of the foam gives a 3D quality to the facial features when seen up close, but it is not noticeable from more than a few feet away. The portholes of the yellow submarine are 5/32" lead came and the rest of the artwork is 5/16" lead came. A black patina gives all of the lead came and solder a charcoal gray color. All glasses used in this artwork are monochromatic in order to be consistent with the cartoon style upon which this piece of Beatles art is based. The yellow, black, and white glasses are opaque. All other glasses are cathedral (see-through). Five distinct colors (red, orange, blue, green, and violet) are used in the border design. This artwork is framed in a custom made 3" walnut frame to which a medium stain has been applied. It comes ready to hang, as do all of my artworks that are for sale. This stained glass artwork measures 27" high by 66 1/2" wide.
