Artwork Description:
This is the beginning of a new series of work that plays with the myths and legends of the River Goddess. It is said that the River Goddess is responsible for the waves in the river. Anger her and she can be vengeful. Gentle ripples come from her laughter. In the winter, she sleeps, but if she gets too cold, take care she doesn't start shivering...
In THE GODDESS OF THE RIVER series- I give liberal license to the stories behind the histories, myths and legends of the Hudson River. Even Kipsy, The Hudson Rivers version of the Loch Ness monster is a playmate for the River Goddess often playing ball with her head. Many of the images appear to look like aerial photographs of topography, but are, in fact, female torsos under the watery depth of the river. Sometimes peaceful or fun loving and sometimes angry, River Goddess lore has us believe it is the temperamental female whim responsible for the constantly changing waves and sudden and glorious storms which brew over the Hudson.
