Artwork Description:
This image came to me during a fishing trip on the Ashley River in Charleston, South Carolina, USA. During the fishing trip, we cruised by a plantation, and dropped the anchor. After catching a few fish, we reeled in our lines, and pulled up the anchor. The anchor had become tangled in something, we moved the boat slowly to pull the anchor up. Once the anchor was loose, we pulled it up, and it bought up shackles used to hold enslaved Africans. When I saw the shackles, I thought how many more stories from the past are laying on the river bed.
