Artwork Description:
This eight inch square canvas stretched over pine wood is primed with gesso and then textured with modeling paste. Gold acrylic paint then covers the surface and sides. The cleaned and painted bone of a baby bird, which was found on a Newfoundland beach, is sewn onto the canvas with gold thread. This individual relic, entitled The Tree Of Secrets, is meant to provide the viewer with meditational gateways to celestial and internal paths to unlock the practical and the abstract. The work is enhanced with the use of small gold beads stitched around the bone. The depth of the work is slightly over an inch. The artist suggests that two wall candle holders or sconces be placed to the left and right sides of the work to illuminate it in mystical light.
