Artwork Description:

Part of my new Gift series, this work is mixed-media and collage on canvas, wrapped in needlepoint mesh. Collaged images of brides and children appropriated from retro-america (1970's) themed wrapping paper found at a urban garage sale. By removing these images from their candy-colored, gender and event-specific format and reinterpreting them in a critical space, the disturbing elements of consumer culture are magnified in this series. Each deconstructed wrapping-paper collage is then re-wrapped in needlepoint canvas or lace, simultaneously hiding and revealing its new connotations.
