This painting originally started as a theme piece to reflect the four climatic zones of the Rocky Mountain region. To achieve this I had to change the shape of the landscape from convex to concave. In the process of painting this piece, I found the opportunity to include a man that has spent most of his 90 years tilling and developing the highland prairie. This man can tell you about working on a thrashing machine crew, a dusty depression, and life during W. W. II. He has written recipes for growing a perfect beefsteak as well as making a carp fish palatable. He remembers men digging ditches by hand, to bring water from snow packed peaks and hand loading sugarbeets on a horse drawn cart. As houses and industry take over developed farmland, on the Colorado front range, I would like folks to remember men like my father, who spent years developing the grade of the land so crops and children could grow.
