Artwork Description:

Metropolis is a conceptual representation of a satellite view of an inner city. With its towering office blocks and surrounding commercial its a place where business rules. The interface between businesses is represented by the interlinked squares and rectangles. The network of roads and sidewalks at the foot of the buildings are represented by the black grout. The grouted area between the ceramic tiles demonstrate how these networks interlink thus producing a maze where the natural landscape is excluded by the buildings and the movement of people is purposeful as opposed to recreational. Metropolis is an indoor mosaic constructed on a multi bonded substrate of plywood with integral hanging hardware. The image is constructed with hand cut grey and white gloss ceramic tiles and contrasting black grout.
