Artwork Description:
On happy days I have the guts and skills to do things extremely
simple. There is something very special about those huge canvases, the bright colors and those extremely simple shapes.
The motif is inspired from a stay in Assisi in Italy, from Basilica di San Francesco, from Basilica di San Pietro in Rome, from the dome in Siena and Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence.
The symbolism is my fascination of San Francesco - that is the grey upright cross - and my total desgust of the church becoming strong and powerful, not at all representing the values of Christianity. That is the top down black cross.
Part of:
Artist's exclusive selection 2002.
Five numbered, signed and certified specimens.
Friends in South East Asia, who love my work because of the extreme simplicity and bright colors,
asked me to make an exclusive selection of eight paintings per year,
supplying five numbered, signed and certified specimens of each motif.
Understanding that different cultures have different demands, I thank
Teguh Prasetyo Heruwaluyo, Jakarta, Indonesia and Torben Cornelius, Denmark
for this inspiration from South East Asia.
In East Asian tradition the extreme simplicity and bright colors have a sense of divinity.
