Artwork Description:
America is suffering from a widespread conception that there is a very rigid and defined way to present yourself and act if you are a man. And to act or represent yourself otherwise, whether that s by wearing an article of woman s clothing or partaking in anything defined as For Women , is a threat to the hypermasculine image. I believe that a large reason this is such a common way of thinking is because there is little to no visual representation of a man stepping outside these restricting boundaries in our media and throughout American history, considering people were arrested for wearing clothing of the opposite sex as recently as the 1930 s and 40 s. My hope is that this piece and other pieces of mine may begin to break down these short-sighted mindsets that have spread like a disease across this country, and continue to put lives at risk when men have no language or space to be who they truly want to be.
