  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Lois Siegel - I have been taking photographs for over 30 years, focusing on a variety of styles and images. My airbrushed work is very theatrical. My collection of "Stars" is an on-going project. I have over 300 photographs in this collection. One hundred and twenty of my photographs(film directors, producers, actors)were displayed in Complexe Desjardins during the Montreal World Film Festival, 2002. ...

Amit Bar - In 1950 I was born in Kibbutz Kfar Hamaccabi, Israel, where I lived until 1988. As a kibbutz-member I was not able to take a complete study at an art-college. Therefore I followed evening-lessons drawing for many years. In 1984 I finally got the permission to study creative art at the university. My study at the university of Haifa was combined with Comparative Literature and took three years. I have learned there a lot about various forms of Creative Art. As follows, I decided to dedicate my interest on photography. My final project was children photography. Since 1988 I live in Doetinchem, The Netherlands, and work as a freelance-photographer and painter. In my commercial work I take photographs for a stock agency and make commissioned work. Wishing to combine my photography with drawing and painting, I began to mix them in my artistic work. It began in 1992 with photo collages and took another form in 1996 with body-paintings. Thank you very much for your visit. I wish you lots of pleasure on my gallery and my site, at www.amitbar.com! Amit Bar....

Walter Spaeth - Walter Spaeth was born 1952 in Munsingen / Germany Ever since he was a very young boy it has been one of Walter Spaeth`s dream to express his ideas and inspirations. And so it doesn`t come as a surprise that photography soon attracted his attention. At the age of twenty he discovered the creative and technical possibilities of this medium in the black-and-white lab of a friend and began thinking about how it could help him realize his dream. In 1972, though, photography was far less sophisticated than it is today. It proved to be an advantage, as Walter Spaeth spent his first years concentrating on the basic techniques and principles of composition. He thoroughy learned the craft and perfected his skills. In the mid-90`s then the full extent of his creativity became apparent. Computers made their appearance in the photo scene and allowed the editing of pictures, something which Spaeth started doing with great fascination and success. Between 1990 and 2000 Spaeth won more than 30 awards, including Deja-GmbH's 10 000 Mark "Take care" award, which he received in a festive ceremony at the Photokina 2000 in Cologne for his excellent ...

Bruce Lewis - I have been making these "Fractured Fotos" for a number of years now. My fascination of random placement in the picture plane lends itself to this technique. You can see that the negative space plays just as an important role as the colored areas. If you can imagine a group of picture cards thrown on the floor and they just happen to make a recognizable image, that would be the random act I seek. The traditional techniques of the darkroom have given way to the lightroom and computer assisted process. All images in this gallery are totally digitally rendered. These Giclee prints are made with pigmented inks and archival paper, giving the photograph an exhibition life of 200 years or more....

Sonja Tellison - More than simple faerie tales, myths can teach, heal, act as morality guides, or beacons of inspiration along a sometimes murky spiritual path. The myths of a culture are its soul. They are whats left behind when the political border lines have changed and the people themselves are gone. Myth helps us to understand our own nature as well as that of the world around us. Joseph Campbell, noted scholar and one of the foremost authorities on mythology states, Myth must be kept alive. The people who can do this are artists . . . . The function of the artist is the mythologization of the environment and the world. At a time when we, as a society, rely more on science and technology for answers to our various quandries, than a collective, traditional knowledge, refocusing on mythologization is more important then ever. Are you anxious Here, take a new pill Are kids more violent Must be the video games The adage Theres nothing new under the sun. is itself certainly not a new concept. If we delve deep enough, the answers are already existent, like diamonds in the dark. When we forget the stories of our ancestors, we forget our own past and...

Manolis Tsantakis - The subject "Woman and Nature" which is the title of my photographs, It becomes an endless source of inspiration. Nature is perfect but also so fickle. The lighting and weather interchanges during a day could be unbelievable. Nature some times has a melancholic mood, but it could also elevate your senses. It offers tranquility and happiness, but also fear and insecurity. Woman, as a female gender by nature, matches perfectly with Nature, and it create within me, exactly the same feelings. It is a constant challenge for me, to tie together in perfect harmony these two live elements and create images of dreams and fantasy. ...

Alexandre Nodopaka - 1. To portray ideas in a fresh style, but most important I was Born for Art, I Live for Art and will die for Art. 2. Abstraction in art is the greatest spiritual meditation & an ideal cerebral masturbation. 3. Photography killed representational art some 150 years ago. The computer killed abstract art. Today, thousands abstracts can be created in a day, they may be worth a thousand words but not a penny! 1.

Steve Buchanan - My work has primarily dealt with details of common objects. Lately however I've been focusing more on wider views and showing idealistic and anti-idealistic views side by side. I respect the power of so called "pretty pictures" and the emotional affect they can have on people but at the same time I'm concerned that pretty pictures, especially nature photos, lull viewers into a sense that everything is good. Everything is not. I propose no solutions but work hard to inform about these problems. Information is the first step in correction. Watch this space for more....
