Artwork Description:

Full title is, A DREAM DIVIDED TOWER OF FONTHILL ABBEY This amazing and hypnotic etching was hand printed and published by the artist at The Center for Works on Paper at 705 Christian Street in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which is associated with The Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and The Fleisher Art Memorial, 700 block of Catharine Street. Please note that this etching is shipped to the collector without a frame or mat. This keeps the price low and allows the collector personal choice in mat selection and framing. A sturdy cardboard box is employed for shipping the work. The etching is first wrapped in two layers of acid free glassine and then placed between two archival boards. This is next placed into the shipping carton and securely packed with bubble wrap. The Absolute Arts Dot Com price includes all handling costs, shipment supplies, and the cost of the shipment box. Mailing costs are added to the price. I created this artwork specifically for my MYSTERIOUS PLACES AND SACRED SPACES series. This fairly large intaglio etching was executed on two separate zinc plates to produce one image, which is both historically accurate and visually mesmerizing. Each plate measures 8 inches high by 10 inches wide, or 20.3 cm x 25.4 cm, with a small separation space on the horizontal mid point. The overall image measures 16 inches high by 10 inches wide, making the print size 22 inches high by 16 inches wide. The artist suggests heavy frame with a minimum size of 24 inches by 18 inches up to 48 inches by 36 inches. This print exists in three editions of only eight etchings per edition the first edition is dated 2012. The etching techniques employed include INTAGLIO, AQUATNT, and DRY POINT. A hard etching ground was used on zinc plates, and I employed seven Nitric acid baths to obtain my desired visual results. My media include oil based black ink on RivesBFK white paper4white paper Charbonnel brandRives BFK White both manufactured in France. My image was adapted from an engraving by the late British artist, J. C. Varrall, and is PLATE 4 in The John Rutter Book, Delineations of Fonthill Abbey. Published in 1823. This story of this architectural wonder begs investigation, because the massive building remained unfinished due to its internal collapse. In addition, to review these plans can be a study into the desperation of formal structure. . . or a discovery of the calmness within ceremonial concealment. . . or simply, a joyous review of line within the circular realms of space.
