THE WILDE TOMB IN RED refers to the blocking off of The Oscar Wilde Tombstone in Paris to prevent fans from kissing the sculpture by Jacob Epstein with lipstick marks. Consequently, this explains my naming of the THIRD edition, THE LIPSTICK EDITION. When I shot the photo in 1987, this ritual had not yet begun. Back then, a friend and I joined a group of three punk rockers from London to picnic at the grave. The mood was somber and, after a bottle of wine, tears were shed for the great gay Irish poet and playwright. Dimensions - The zinc plate for this etching measured 7 seven-inches high by 5 five-inches wide, or 17.780cm by 12.700cm, which is consequently the image’s size. The paper print measures 12 twelve-inches high by 10 ten-inches wide, or 30.480cm x 25.400cm.
