I am Professor Emeritus retired from The Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD). I’ve lived and made my art here for 35 years beginning as a student at CCAD and returning after accomplishing my MFA from Boston University.
I’ve taught drawing, color, design and painting techniques in the illustration area since 1985. I’ve exhibited in Columbus regularly, written up in the Dispatch and in Dialogue Magazine, extended my exhibitions spiraling out from Columbus to various galleries in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky then Maryland, New York, Oklahoma and Washington State… Hiroshima Japan, Washington DC, then to Budapest Hungary, Dresden Germany, Zagreb ... Croatia, Buenos Aires and Cordoba Argentina…
Early in my life I worked as an Illustrator/Designer after high school and while putting myself through art school later. I worked on projects for Apple computers, OETA/PBS and Oprah Magazine.
My work is all over the world owned by people like the former Director of the National Archives in Zagreb Croatia, a Bank President in Holland, The Greater Columbus Arts Council, OSU Newark and there are works in collections in New York, Texas, Oklahoma, Chicago…
A peace poster I designed as I finished my grad program in Boston is in the permanent collection of the Hiroshima Museum of Art. There are a total of 11 silkscreened Hiroshima posters in collections around the world as well as others in personal collections in the U.S. as I was one of some 300 American artists invited to produce a work for the 40th Commemoration of the Bombing of Hiroshima in 1985.
I’ve sold a number of works here in Columbus over the years, mostly to private collections…It is a certain variety of collector who is drawn to my work…it is often cerebral, often cutting, not always happy although I am a master of color. This is work that will prosper long after all the commercial stuff collected by corporations is seen as old and too cutesy. Although public enough for a large quantity to be exhibited in 2010 at the Shot Tower Gallery at Fort Hayes High School for the Arts…in fact a number of those works are still up in the base of the tower as you enter the gallery.
I will offer my personal collection save a few favorite pieces at auction sometime by the end of 2014. By January I will relocate to Tulsa Oklahoma where I grew up to live in our family home. If you were ever interested in owning one of my works now is the time. Mostly small to medium sized works offered between $200 and $500, with a few larger works from $1000 on up. These are liquidation prices. Starting prices for the auctioneers gavel. If you are interested in beating the crowd contact me via absolutearts.com/walterking…go to either the guest book or the email section and send me a message with a phone number of email address. But you have to hurry because we are in the process of liquidating everything we own including our house. The month of August will be clearance month. The auction dates will be posted sometime later. There are some other items that will be auctioned off if we still own them including some collectible dolls, some antiques and other collectibles.
