John Hampshire - These works are a part of an ongoing body of work I started in 1995. It consists of drawings, which are labyrinths, and paintings derived from images as well as from life. The beginnings of these drawing processes do not deal directly with the image, but the breakup of the picture plane. I establish a series of gesture lines in pen; tentative glimpses translated with definite marks. This is the structure for subsequent marks. I do not allow myself (for the most part) to cross any lines or marks. In turn, initial lines act as "containers" for later lines. The result of this activity is a maze-like structure that also implies an image. I build up greater densities of marks to achieve darker values. The image I work from provides a guide to direct this activity. As the process continues the applied marks become smaller and smaller and the information brought into the drawing becomes more refined. This is a self refining process that I am continuing to push further and further with each piece. This is actually a process that started for me in high school; doodling in notebooks. Only now I have applied this mindless activity to ...
Stephanie Hayden - My work varies in style, i try to capture moments of my life on different canvases, from watercolours, acrylics, to montages, sculpture and my photography. Much of my work is dark & disturbing and i can attribute it to the fact that until recently i was registered blind, legally, having been born with dislocated lenses. The more vibrant & colourful works are from my later period after i had surgery to implant interocular lenses, thus i now see the world in a totally different way. This can be seen across my portfolio....
Roger Farr - Born in Much Wenlock Shropshire, England 1957.One of 14. My family life and upbringing was in the countryside. Always having a love for wildlife and animals, Archibald Thorburn,Fenwick Landsdowne,Raymond Harris Ching,David Shepherd,Rembrant and Mary Cassat were great influences in the early stages and latter stages of my work, this was complimented with having a grandfather who was an artist and a father who was a gamekeeper. Much of my work was self taught up to the age of 18, this was when my first sale of original paintings took place in Salt Spring Island, Canada.Bought by a collector of wildlife paintings who had noticed my work through a member of my family who lives there. In 1985 I started to work for Shropshire Trust For Nature Conservation, providing illustrations of wildlife subjects for schools and colleges. My work started to be recognised and other opportunities arose including other wildlife and community based projects. Whilst visiting Shropshire Conservation Group one day, David Attenborough commented that I should develop this skill further. So in 1993 after a four year course I obtained a BA(Hons) in Visual Communication, specialising in Illustration at Wolverhampton University. On graduating ...
Doyle Chappell - DOYLE CHAPPELL is a portrait artist who paints in a distinctively contemporary style, creating colorful works that are the antithesis of dull, ancestral-type portraits. From the beginning of his art studies at the University of Texas, Chappell prefered painting people to other subjects. His sensitive depictions reflect those intangible qualities that motivate and define each individual. Admirers of Chappells portraits have observed that his paintings seem to reflect a kind of inner spirit that expresses much more than the surface appearance. He finds all ages to have special beauty. Although he has created numerous oil portraits, he presently works mostly in acrylic on canvas as that medium most suites the spontanious and painterly brushwork and heavy build up of layers of colors, on top of colors. His works are valued by serious art collectors, and his portraits are included in many private collections. Some of his favorite paintings are of "just plain folks". Among the well known subjects Chappell has painted are Lynda Johnson Robb, daughter of President Lyndon Johnson and wife of Virginia Senator Charles Robb, with her children; Senator and Mrs. Warren Magnuson; and actress Daryl Hannah. PROCEDURE Doyle Chappell paints almost exclusively from life, usually completing ...
Walter Spaeth - Walter Spaeth was born 1952 in Munsingen / Germany Ever since he was a very young boy it has been one of Walter Spaeth`s dream to express his ideas and inspirations. And so it doesn`t come as a surprise that photography soon attracted his attention. At the age of twenty he discovered the creative and technical possibilities of this medium in the black-and-white lab of a friend and began thinking about how it could help him realize his dream. In 1972, though, photography was far less sophisticated than it is today. It proved to be an advantage, as Walter Spaeth spent his first years concentrating on the basic techniques and principles of composition. He thoroughy learned the craft and perfected his skills. In the mid-90`s then the full extent of his creativity became apparent. Computers made their appearance in the photo scene and allowed the editing of pictures, something which Spaeth started doing with great fascination and success. Between 1990 and 2000 Spaeth won more than 30 awards, including Deja-GmbH's 10 000 Mark "Take care" award, which he received in a festive ceremony at the Photokina 2000 in Cologne for his excellent ...

Suzanne Gegna - I AM INTERESTED IN THE WORLD WITHIN AND THE PASSAGEWAY FROM INNER TO OUTER AS WELL AS OUTER TO INNER. I LOVE THE USE OF COLOR AND FORM IN ABSTRACT ART AND IT FREES ME AND I HOPE THE VIEWER TO FIND A PERSONAL CONNECTION WITH THE FINISHED ARTWORK. I ALSO USE WHIMSY TO CONVEY A CONCEPT AND HOPE TO REMIND THE OBSERVER THAT WHAT WE SEE IN THE MOST LITERAL SENSE IS PERHAPS NOT ALL THAT IS REAL. OFTEN I BELIEVE SIMPLICITY IS THE BEST WAY TO EXPRESS COMPLEXITY.... ...
