  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Richard Wynne - Goran Petmil - For as long as remember I've been working on the art that makes up my world, a detailed rethinking of the stored hot inspiration within me. In 2005 I had partially withdrawn from the gallery exhibition spaces forming an opening only in his studio in Southampton. I work my art slowly, taking my time and leaving my pieces to take shape and breathe in the depths of my studio, working on my them for months I come back to them from time to time. I do not live by images, but I live for the art, I do a process of researching materials and textures, with each new layer of paint I'm opening up my own spiritual quest. Destruction, properties that disappear and matter are the primary goal and reason for my creativity, it launches my energy and ignites my spirit to star a feast of many layers, texture and color, it all comes to surface in the art. I find a rays of hope and truth in the landscapes that men ruthlessly destroys all more and more. Large formats are a great part of my excitement, many size paintings, from realistic, to abstract, and sculptures are a ...

Randall Fox - I am interested in making visual statements about the interaction of time, history, cultures, memory, intellect, intuitions, experiences and the spiritual, in and on the human creative process. "inherent in all manifest in the few" Born: 1960 Education: Bachelor of Science Degree, Industrial Technology (Technical Management) California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo A.S. Degree Canada Collage, Redwood City, California (General Engineering-Pre Med.) Other: Art History/Art Studies - Stanford University, Palo Alto California Collected in: United States, Holland, Norway, Puerto Rico, Germany, Mexico, England, Brazil ...

Janice Young - I work in multiple mediums. When I get an idea, I think, how can I express this visually. Sometimes the medium is the inspiration. I reuse materials from demolition, use leftovers from construction, gather raw materials from nature, and experiment with commercially produced materials. I have a drive to create. I would like what I create to provoke thought as to the beauty and importance of all life and the effect our massive appetites have on that life. ...

Tom Kelly - The primary direction of my work is dedicated to the visual representation of past literary works, historical figures, myths, and stories which are partially lost to time. In the space between the event and our current time there are gaps in perception, memory, materials and history that we fill with how we interpret our present world. The cultural, physical, and philosophical space in which we inhabit is the modifier of how our past is seen and the indicator of the direction of our future. We cannot help but to see the past through the lenses of our time and because of this the past can appear to be a strange and at times unknowable place. I address the space between history and contemporary perception by making surfaces that are variously layered, abraded, stained, cleaned, collaged with found objects and over-painted. An eroding wall surface that has been subject to the vagaries of time is analogous to the way the space of the past is perceived in the present. In the worn surface we can see the march of time and ponder the various ways in which the surface was affected by time. Ideas of support or ruin, asset or ...

Katharina Eltringham - I begin with color or texture, adding layers as the personality of the piece speaks to me. My art beckons a closer look and I urge you to reach out and feel it. Life, like art demonstrates that although we may meet thousands of people in our lifetime, it is only when we take the time to appreciate the texture of their being that they become truly beautiful. The use of acrylic paints, as well as gesso, papers, fabrics, embellishments, stones, metals and unconventional tools offer endless possibilities and an intimacy between artist and audience....

    E. Tilly Strauss - I have been painting chickens for the last 20 years- beginning with the advertizing of our family's poultry farm business thru the eventual move of my studio into the defunct slaughterhouse. Somehow chickens fall easily from my brush, leaving painstaking impressions of my psyche and chronicling retrospective concerns of my community- such as the source of food, the use of land, the clarity of love, the isolation of individuals. With the inclusion of text from headlines to personal lists, stories emerge and dissolve through the process of the painting. Layering in the push and pull of darks and lights, the paintings gel into a narratives of our anxious era, a larger tale of the moods of soul and season. Because of the space and time I am afforded to work, much of my painting up to this has been intimate in dimension. I would like to enlarge the images to a much more confrontational scale. I recently moved out of the poultry slaughterhouse (because of ventilation needs) into a much larger barn. My goal is to further push the images so that they reflect the chicken as legend in our cultural mythology and account for my current truths. ...

Jim Mroczkowski - MY WORK AND ITS MEANING Typically, when it comes to reading an artist's statement or a curator's remarks on an artist which is related to an exhibition in a gallery setting, the general public sometimes discovers that the accompanying statement is filled with artspeak, an obscure language that confounds people more than it clarifies how to understand the work behind the artist's intentions. Such statements are often laden with historically antecedent references, obscure and foreign philosophical posturing (preferably 19th century French or German), fuliginous wording, and tenebrous and obfuscating expression (the terms Zeitgeist, transcendent, and dialogic are used a lot) and loaded with excessively verbose ideas in order to sound cerebrally profound. (This last sentence is a perfect example of "artspeak"). In truth, it's all just convoluted fluff! I prefer to keep it much simpler. My mixed media drawings and paintings result from interpreting randomly selected pieces of text torn from old, discarded books. Many years ago I acquired a large number of used, hard-covered books for a special art project. Afterwards, I began using these books and their words as a source of inspiration for my drawings and paintings. I still do. The following...
