Artists Describing Their Art:
Mikhail Vedernikov - My name is Mikhail, I was born and live in Artemovskiy, Sverdlovsk region, Russia. I am a self-taught artist, I have no art education. I became interested in drawing in 2007, while I was studying at College. Drawing has completely captured me so I am drawing, watching tutorials, reading articles nearly my whole free time. During this period pastels got my favorite media. My first set of pastel pencils I bought only in 2011 and by that time I already had theoretical knowledge about this material, which I could apply in practice. As a direction I chose realism, genre aEUR" animalism. In 2014 I started birdwatching. I donaEURtmt often manage to get out on a photo hunt, but in those rare cases I get a lot of pleasure watching the birds, making beautiful photos and discovering new interesting species that I have not met before....
P. E. Creedon - P.E. Creedon, Artist's Statement Color is number one with me in my pastel paintings. I shied away from color for years, doing mostly pencil drawings of figures. In my search for a new medium a few years back I tried colored pencils first. It felt familiar. But I soon found that the color, though a nice change for me, was not rich enough. My wife, Patricia, also an artist had tried pastels but never took to them. So we traded. She found the colored pencils perfect for her pet portraits. While I immediately fell in love with pastels. I do pastels differently from most in that I like to layer it, spray fixative, then layer some more. This gives it the depth and richness I want. People find my pastels to be warm and inviting, colorful and much more like oils than pastel. I want to continue exploring along these lines while also incorporating more texture....
