Artist Statement:
Talking or writing about my
work usually leaves me with
the feeling of having talked
AROUND the work. If I really
try I can sometimes talk
closely around it. However,
the fact still remains that
the work to a large extent
simply is what it is.
In talking around the work, I
could mention various things:
my obsession with the
unavoidable strangeness and
absurdity of existence; the
blackness of comedy; the
genius of adopted bad taste;
the artists' duty to offend
sensibilities; the human
ability to make a break in the
clouds; the wonder of nowness;
or the untapped potential of
visual reality.
I could also mention my
tentative belief that art is
essentially sensation and the
obtaining of this is the only
reason for existence. I could
continue and conclude that art
can be or is everything and it
is itself the reason for
existing. One could then
question, this being the case,
where life is art, then why
make paintings? Why not
simply live life, or at least
make art which dissolves any
distinction between itself and
life? Well, living life may
