Artists Describing Their Art:

Dave Martsolf - Dave Martsolf Dave Martsolf was born in 1949 in Kansas, moved to Western Pennsylvania in early childhood and at age 12 moved to New Hampshire where he resides today. MartsolfaEURtms father and grandfather were architects and his mother a professional photographer. Martsolf attended MIT and later UNH where he earned a degree in Fine Arts. His early work was influenced by the great masters and others such as the post-impressionists Miro, Matisse, Kandinsky, Klee, Picasso, and the surrealist Salvador Dali. Architectural instincts developed due to his close association with architecture in his youth. DaveaEURtms focus has been in visual arts his entire life. His style extends from realism to surrealistic to fantasy and abstraction. His work uses the mediums of oils, watercolors, inks and pencils, to the more technically-oriented media of computer-based art. Beginning in the late 80aEURtms Martsolf spent productive time with the tools of Bryce, Poser, KaiaEURtms Power Tools, and similar photo editing and photo manipulation products. He was creator, owner and artistic director of Damsel Software Group in the 1990aEUR2s as a producer and manufacturer of original content screen savers. Today, Dave has returned to handmade art. He continues ...

Johann Van Den Noort - Dutch native, painter and artist JOHANN VAN DEN NOORT (Kampen 1940) has an undeniable bond with the sea and therefore maintains a unique position within the modern art world. His passion for the sea and the way this passion is visualized through his original art form, secures him a position in the ranks of today's art world. JOHANN VAN DEN NOORT's paintings summon feelings of sovereignty. An exuberance arising from meeting the elements and visually capturing an abstract image into an emotoinal reality. Wim van der Beek, arteditor. JOHANN VAN DEN NOORT dominates all technics in the art like: oilpaintings, watercolours, gouache, graphics, ceramics and sculptures. His total oeuvre consists of over 5000 pieces of art. There are a lot of publications from him by radio, TV, newspapers, artmagazines and catalogues. John Sims - Following some thirty years working as a graphic designer and illustrator I began stone carving in 2000 and in 2002 I returned to college at Christ Church Canterbury in England to study BA Fine Art. In 2007 I went to the Cyprus College of Art to study for a Post Grad Diploma in Fine Art under the great Cypriot artist, Stass Paraskos. At the end of the course I was asked to stay on and run the Summer Schools and to be tutor on the Post Grad course. An incredible experience and an enormous influence on my work. My work now involves less stone carving more often found timber or kebab sticks My drawing in some respects has turned a full circle in the sense that prior to sculpture my illustration work was colourful but painstakingly detailed and stylised. At college I concentrated on measured observational life drawing in pencil which fed into the simple lines of my mainly figuratively based stone carvings. Whilst in Cyprus I re-discovered colour in both my drawing and sculpture. Dreams and mythology filled my waking and sleeping hours. Oil pastel and oil sticks became my favourite mediums to quickly capture these glimpses of ...

Harry Weisburd - Harry Weisburd is an Internationally Represented Artist, including, USA, Expressions Gallery, Berkeley, California,

Scott Brown - The world is filled with visual excitement. When I am receptive to that excitement, a work of art is born. Then it becomes a matter of fleshing it out on paper. If I am sucessful the viewer will feel that initial excitement I felt. In a sense, the artist is a reporter of feelings. Digital Collection. Recently I started creating digital artwork. All works in the Digital Collection can be resized to any multiple of 8.5 inches by 11 inches horizontal landscape or vertical portrait orientation. After purchasing the artwork, you must inform me of the size you desire and contact information of the printer you would like to use. I will send the printer the corresponding file. ...

Shelly Leitheiser - Art comes from my head and my heart. I care deeply about the environment and often do artwork expressing my interest in environmental topics. I also use my art work to tell stories and uncover truths. Water and paint are sometimes used but often I will use photography and digital painting programs to get the images I envision. I am a formally trained artist in fine art, and have recently left the world of painting realism as my interest in photography grows. Why should art and photography look the same? Now I do more impressionist art and also abstracts, many of them inspired by other worlds. The realistic painting I do these days is very contemporary. Art is a lot of work but it's also very rewarding for me when someone inquires further into the meaning of my art....

Michael Garr - I have been drawing and painting since Junior High. I enjoy quick art, impressionistic yet realistic, and minimal. There are interesting subjects all around us. My inspirations are architecture, people, light and shadow, the sea and boats, imagination... and the old masters. Get out and enjoy your surroundings. All my works are available as signed and numbered prints. I also do commission works, some examples of which are in the portfolio. I donate all proceeds to charity (I have a day job). My opportunities for artistic expression have included drawing on napkins during airplane rides and waiting during my sons' music lessons. In 2012 I took up oil painting for the first time, and my mentor is Lorena Pugh of North Kingstown. I've done both Plein air and studio work in her presence, and am benefitting from the association. We have an informal group who meet and paint in Lorena's studio on Monday nights throughout the indoor season. I will continue to pursue art on a daily basis, and post the finished works here and on facebook for any and all to peruse. In 2003, I legally changed my name back to my original name, Michael Garr, so ...

Pol Ledent - I am a self-taught artist. I was born in Belgium o, 23rd October 1952. I started painting in 1995 . I took some drawing lessons in the art academy in Dinant. I try to paint the landscapes of the countryside where I am living : the southern part of Belgium. Firts I took part in many collective exhibitions . Than, I had personal exhibitions in Rochehaut (Galerie La Potele), in Dinant (Galerie L'impression), in Paris (Rive Gauche Galerie Artimus) in Brussels (Galerie G-Loft).In 2004, I had three exhibitions, again In Rochehaut, galerie La Potele in May. Then, in September Exhibition Libr'art in Libramont. In November, Galerie Impression in Dinant. What people like most in my paintings are the colours. My art doesn't speak to the intellect but to the soul and to the feelings. Talink the risk to seem old fashioned , I would say it is rather romantic. I wish you much pleasure looking at my paintings. Pol Ledent ...

Eve Co - I began painting and drawing in 1987 and have not stopped. I have a wide range from, landscapes, still-lifes, Hubble art galaxies nebulas, abstracts, florals, architectural art and so much more. I draw every day and paint as much as I can afford. I paint more watercolors than acrylic and oil canvas art. I would prefer more canvas art, but I make do with what I have. I try to express myself in artwork as well as with words. I paint landscapes, the glorious colors of nature, water, the ever expressive sky and more, primarily with watercolors on paper. These paintings are usually thought out and planned because they represent nature as I see nature. I paint still-lifes of everyday objects. To teach me about one particular color, shading and or painting glass. I think of still-lifes as a learning process that literally has me pulling my hair out in frustration, but I still paint through how they make me feel... I am fascinated with Hubble Space Technology so, I paint galaxies and nebulas on canvas with acrylic paints. I have sold many of these paintings and I must admit they are some of my favorite subjects...

Engelina Zandstra - 'In the labyrinth of my thoughts there are many roads leading to the unknown' LANDSCAPES OF THE MIND Engelina Zandstra is a Dutch artist living in Amsterdam, Netherlands. My way of working is spontaneous. It starts with a concept, an idea in my mind, which is in most cases not well-defined. It can have its origin in the images that are stored in my imagination, or in the impressions of daily life. The paintings made in this way can be considered as'Landscapes of the mind', because they are reproductions of the ideas that are formed in my head. The style of the paintings can best be described as lyrical-abstract. Sometimes they are more figurative, at other times fully abstract. Colour is very important for me : the alchemy of colour. This defines for me the atmosphere of a painting. Usually I work in many thin layers of paint on top of each other. I let myself be guided by the forms and colours that develop during the process of painting. Each new layer gives inspiration for the following one, with new ideas. Because of the different layers and colours, the acrylic paint gets depth and character. Sometimes the...

Engelina Zandstra - Engelina Zandstra - Hope Brooks - I am often asked the question what is my work about which is a little like being asked what is life about because in art as in life each person must bring their own experience and provide their own answers. Quite simply my work is about life and the enigma that surrounds existence. I make reference to specific experiences or draw on visual reality to act as a frame to the broader content and people bring their own interpretations as well. When I began painting in the 60's I was focused on talking about natural phenomena that I found around me in Jamaica, such as the sea, the mountains, or the moon but I was also trying to find a language that expressed the essence of that place I called home. In 1980 I travelled to Baltimore USA and my visual surroundings changed completely. This city had none of the natural landscape but it had beautiful stained glass windows and during my year at the Maryland Institute I produced a large body of work called "Windows". This included prints as well as paintings of the secular as well as the ecclesiastical windows. Someone looking at the work once said ...

Lynda Lehmann - I have participated in numerous juried shows and had solo shows of my paintings. Ive sold my photography and digital art online, in galleries and other real-time venues, although I am currently marketing my work primarily online. My stock art sells well and Ive sold at least 2400 images in that venue. Life events had steered me away from painting but I am jumping back into that part of my process and hope to have new paintings online within the next few months. OTHER STUFF My painting Bibliophiles Dream has been featured on the cover of the Insights Journal of Austin Seminary. My paining Damariscotta Dream has been used for the cover of Chuck Sweetmans poetry chapbook published by Dream Horse Press. My image Enchanted Forest was used by the Sierra Club in their online feature Daily Ray of Hope. The Yellow Door has been published in Long Islands Canvas Magazine. I was a featured artist at Imagekind in July and have been featured from time to time on my other sites as well. February 1 - 28, 2009 - Metrimorphic III featuring new abstract paintings combining biomorphic and geometric elements, Harborfields Library, Greenlawn, NY. Due to time constraints I will ...

Christine Alfery - My current thinking seems to be asking the age old question what is art Well - dont know why I say my current thinking - I have been asking that question ever since post modernism and all its relativity. Not only has art become part of the postmodern movement it has also become less precious because it seems everyone accepts the comments anyone can make art and its all about your own personal interpretation or how one sees things. I believe art, aesthetics, are all about personal interpretation. That does not make art relative and subjective. How can I say that Everyone is unique, all aEURoeartaEUR is unique. If an object is not unique, original, one of a kind, then it isnaEURtmt art. The idea, the concept, their uniqueness is art. Just like one person is unique to themselves, to their own individuality, aEURoeartaEUR is unique to itself and itaEURtms own individuality. It does not depend on collective thinking. NOT everyoneaEURtms ideas, concepts are art. Not every individual is an artist. They may create something that looks like art, it has a frame, it is in a gallery, the person who made it called themselves artists and their work ...

Sandra Costa Bras - After trying several painting and photography techniques, I chose watercolour as the main media of expression of feelings, sensations and thoughts. The paintings always start with small dots of water and colour and through the interaction of both the paintings are born. All the things lost and lock in my memory, feelings and thoughts, images, landscapes, places, people and situations, appear between, the fields of colour, the lines, the forms and become alive. I found, working with watercolours, my inner self. Watercolours were chosen as my main technique cause, with then and with small pieces of paper, I express myself totally. I no longer fell the pressure and the need, I felt before, of working on large canvas and I feel free to do whatever it comes to my mind. So the result of these last years of work is those paintings full of light, colour, life and movement. I found myself as a painter....
