Artists Describing Their Art:
Lucy Arnold - To see more of my artwork, please visit my website at www.lucyarnold.com. I love color, and that is my primary tool of expression. Intense color is the one characteristic that all my artworks in numerous styles and media have in common. I use color in abstract pieces to show balance, transformation, and interaction of energies. These pieces are created in many layers. Something of each layer is allowed to show through to increase the sense of multiple dimensions. An internal vision or feeling may serve as my inspiration. A stray bit of nature such as a feather, leaf, or shell may also be the starting point of creativity. A simple object may ignite a powerful internal reaction as inner and outer nature meet. Whether the finished piece is a highly realistic depiction or completely abstract, I strive to imbue my art with a sense of the mystery, beauty, and sacredness I find in the world and universe. ...
Sandra Costa Bras - After trying several painting and photography techniques, I chose watercolour as the main media of expression of feelings, sensations and thoughts. The paintings always start with small dots of water and colour and through the interaction of both the paintings are born. All the things lost and lock in my memory, feelings and thoughts, images, landscapes, places, people and situations, appear between, the fields of colour, the lines, the forms and become alive. I found, working with watercolours, my inner self. Watercolours were chosen as my main technique cause, with then and with small pieces of paper, I express myself totally. I no longer fell the pressure and the need, I felt before, of working on large canvas and I feel free to do whatever it comes to my mind. So the result of these last years of work is those paintings full of light, colour, life and movement. I found myself as a painter....

Heather Rippert - As a painter, I am interested in touching the viewer's spirit in a deep, long, and sensitive way. My desire to take the viewer on a transcendent trip to a place of peace, serenity and joy is the backbone of my paintings. My passion for paper runs deep. I absolutely love working on paper surfaces. Discovering new paper and what its unique characteristics are and how it responds to watercolor or pastel, my two primary mediums, is a favorite pastime for me. Captivated by the diversity of seascapes, from calm soothing surf to stormy seas, I bring the elements together in my watercolors and pastels using strong contrast of darks and lights. My fascination with shadows in the sand is always both a challenge and joy in my process of painting and working the paint to get just the right shade and just the right shape to tantalize the viewer and welcome them into my private world. ...
Leyla Munteanu - ARTIST'S STATEMENT Leyla Munteanu I have always felt a special connection with textural surfaces and the human figure. The beauty and strength in human features was a preferred subject in my work. Now I am focusing on the nostalgic. My love for the human figure has evolved into an interest in what they leave behind. Human marks left on objects and surfaces over time become more important than representation of the people who made the marks. I find my inspiration in immediate surroundings, and I hope that my work will lead the viewer to see the beauty that I see. First impressions are everything. Most often my depictions of those experiences are simply my way of saying "you should see what I saw!" Each piece has special meaning to me, which will not necessarily be the same meaning the viewer may attach to it. Art tells us something about ourselves and my work is the world as I see it, a world that brings back memories. I grew up in Bucharest Romania, a town marked by a long history; every place was worn by time or human nature. I'm still amazed by my memories of these places. All ...
