  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Terri Cabral - Artists Statement I am a painter of people, animals and the natural world. I strive in my painting to reveal the unique essence of each of my subjects through the distillation of light and color into recognizable form and substance. I continue to be greatly influenced by my uncle, Cuban Vanguardia painter Antonio Gattorno. He was known for his versatility and his ability to paint masterfully in a variety of styles. I am constantly experimenting with styles and developing my sense of versatility. ...

Sergej Jakovlev - LIFE IS NOT A STYLE Symbol corresponds to the visual arts closer than Allegory, Metaphor, and Myth. A visual image in its nature rather is Symbol than Allegory or Metaphor, which are closer to literature. The visual arts are always implicated with Symbol more or less. Since 1989 my art is called Postsymbolism. It is not exactly in line with art, which is known from art history as Symbolism. Herein I am trying to represent my romantic vision of the modern real world, both abstractedly and figuratively. Symbolical ideas I use are not narrative wide, but they can touch us emotionally and mentally direct, as for instance ideas of happiness or sorrow, of light or darkness, etc. The arts related to Symbol did not create either schools or styles. Moreover, the arts arisen from depth of Symbol have escaped of freezing, or some of them have stopped to be symbolical arts in case of formation into the certain styles. We may invent unlimited quantity of different names and styles, like Pop-art, Op-art, Flop-art, Slop-art, Stop-art, etc. And then some of my recent works could be qualified as "impressional abstract expressionism" or anyhow else, but they ...

Eduardo Diaz - Statement My name is Eduardo DIaz and Iim a Mexican artist residing in the Bay Area since 2001. In my work I express different elements of Mexican culture, while emphasizing its Native American heritage. I incorporate native themes and images, both extant and prehispanic, into my works and combine them with personal feelings, experiences or fears. Although cultural elements are the essence of my art, through them I also like to express political and social opinions. As a Mexican, I feel in touch with the problems at the Mexican-American border, as well as with the issues facing Mexican immigrants. I also like to express the tension between the indigenous and the industrialized worlds, and to analyze the different elements that make up Mexican identity, especially when confronted with life in a different country. My favorite medium is oil painting. I use vivid and deep colors, with which I reflect the light of the Mexican sun. Some of my compositions are figurative, and oscillate between realistic scenes and more elaborated images, with affinity to surrealism. My most recent productions are less figurative and combine the same vivid colors into expressive abstract constructions. Biography My name is Eduardo D...

Tom Miller - My work is Rinky-Dink in nature; that being to do the least amount of effort with all the wrong tools for all the wrong reasons at the wrong time and place. Magic Marker is my specialty, but I often dabble in "fake" painting on the internet with shareware paint programs I download from random sites, glitter glue, xerox copies of originals (the originals then get destroyed and the xerox copies become the original work), and painting with my butt. I think of my art as generally worthless since nobody ever buys any of it. But I continue making it because they say that you live on in your work, and that is why my art is so silly. -- Tom Miller, Artist, UFO Expert...

Pamela Henry - I am a Photography Artist. My process crosses analog and digital borders. Initially my images are captured on film, slides or digitally. I use a range of techniques from cross-process development and polaroid manipulation to digital painting, collage and layering to create what you see here. If I were to condense my thoughts on photographic expression into a single phrase it would be "in the moment". The moment begins at first sight and is complete when I release the shutter, lift my stylo from the polaroid, or remove my hand from the mouse. I know I will relive that feeling each time I look at the image, like a song or a smell that transports you to another place and time. This photographic expression translates beyond verbal expression and rests in your being, invoking a subjective reaction based on your experiences. Herein lies a collection of such moments. ...

Joel P Heinz Sr. - Joel P Heinz Sr. was born in Hastings, Minnesota; raised and educated in Northern California: served in the Army in Viet Nam, and raised a family in California. He worked in various sales positions until he found his calling working with mentally disabled adults. He is now retired and living his dream in Maui with his wife, Kathy. In 1995, Joel began painting using acrylic paint on canvas with no formal art training. His artwork evolved from associating with other artists and the joy of experimenting and discovery. In the beginning, his favorite subject was Tropical Marine, colorful tropical landscapes and underwater scenes. As part of the evolution of his art, he dabbled in Egyptian art for a short time in order to practice working in detail, a noticeable characteristic of most of his artwork on canvas. For years he had appreciated artwork from a distance only to be disappointed in the lack of detail when viewed close up. He wanted his work on canvas to be detailed enough to be clearly seen whether viewed up close or from a distance. In the 21 years prior to moving to Maui, Joel's twice-annual visits to Maui cultivated an appreciation ...

Richard Wynne - Richard is an acclaimed International Artist recently returned to the USA. Richard has lived in many Countries. "The last being Thailland. He started his art studies at a very young age at the John Herron Art Institute In Indianapolis, Indiana and then later at the Art Institute of Chicago Richard has lived in many countries, painting, and playing music. Mr Wynne has exhibited in Thailand, the United States, Spain, Argentina, Kuwait, Korea, Ihdia, and other Countries. Sometimes perhaps I say too much about my self but maybe it helps people understand what motivates my work. For your information I've lived in 8 different countries and have been around the world 5 times. I speak a few different languages, some very well; others not so well. By the way I am not a workaholic as I don't consider what I do work. I enjoy life too much. I forgot to say I am also a weight lifter as lifting weights is my Zen. When I am troubled the concentration it takes to lift makes me calm. I guess my page will probably be a little different from what people expect. Sorry I have not been uploading new work as ...

Michael Rusch - It is interesting how the term Western Art is defined. For many it means cowboys and horses. While others think of the romantic exagerations by Remington. Still others will seriously consider Western Art, only if it represents the Southwest region. Well having been born in the American West.Living on a Farm/Ranch. Mining for coal and moly at one time. Living the city lifestyle as well, I see the the term Western Art as so much more. The color of the West encompasses its land, people and their attitudes . Whether from the past, future or present day, this color has its own unique quality. This is why I don't like to confine my subject matter to only the pre concieved traditional notions or ideas of what American Western Art is. Its the experiences I'm after so I can put them in the art. ...

Alexandre Nodopaka - 1. To portray ideas in a fresh style, but most important I was Born for Art, I Live for Art and will die for Art. 2. Abstraction in art is the greatest spiritual meditation & an ideal cerebral masturbation. 3. Photography killed representational art some 150 years ago. The computer killed abstract art. Today, thousands abstracts can be created in a day, they may be worth a thousand words but not a penny! 1.

Augie Nkele - Born: Kisangani, Congo, Africa BFA: Emphasis Painting, 1979, Academie Des Beaux-Arts, Kinshasa and Lubumbashi Additional Studies: Notre Dame de la Sagesse, School of Interior Design, Brussels, Belgium, 1980-82 Currently a US citizen residing in Fort Worth, Texas I am from the Kongo people. Before Columbus sailed to the New World, the Portuguese had already established trade relations with the kingdom of Kongo. Members of the royal court of Kongo attended the university in Lisbon. I speak the Kikongo language, as well as Lingala, Swahili, French and English. Congo is always in my heart although it has been many years since I have been there in person. My country has a rich artistic and cultural history and the Congolese people have made important contributions to art and music. One of my goals with my art is to introduce our history and culture to others. When you know Africa you will love Africa. I love learning about different ethnic and national cultures. I look for links that can unite people rather than divide them. Having lived on three continents has given me a broader interest perhaps than if I had only lived in one community all my life. We must ...
