  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Ron Berry - I draw because it is pure excitement to watch a figure come to life or to see a structure begin to come "off the paper." My intent is to produce a rendering that is realistic, detailed and accurate. I choose subjects because I have some emotional connection to them. I simply want the viewer to experience the impact of the figure, the structure, the scene. I leave it to the great artists to make us think about the human experience. I do have great admiration for the words attributed to Michelangelo " that he saw the angel in the marble and carved until he set the angel free." Would that we all could see that angel, as accurately as he. Whether I am a realist or a naturalist or a representational artist, the beauty for me, is that art that attempts to present the image as a realistic rendering of the object, figure or scene. As my artistic process continues to mature, the realism, detail and accuracy of the images should continue to develop as well. Meanwhile, the attempt to bring a realistic, detailed and accurate image to life is itself the magic. ...

Aleksandar Janicijevic - I have been developing this project [urban squares] since july 2001. it consists of an intensive collection of urban square images. the photos have been taken in more than 15 countries, stitched together as 360Es panoramas and prepared in two formats, a quicktimeVR that can be viewed as an interactive movie, and some of them in a version prepared for printing at up to 20" x 150". as an integral part of this collection a classification system was developed. there are two parts to this system: categories of the types of squares and an evaluation method. by classifying and then analyzing the elements of a square, I slowly began to realize that there is a similarity between the city and a living organism. we can treat cities as entities with collective intelligence and, with the same analogy, we can recognize a system by which the urban space communicates with us. the square, as a city's "heart and soul", has the most to say, so recently I concentrated my artistic exploration on the language of urban squares. the vocabulary of urban squares is part of a complex language of art; it is a dialect with very specific characteristics. elements have ...

Abiodun Ijiyera - Artist Statement In style, content and formal properties, my artwork reflects the motifs found in the traditional arts and crafts of the Yoruba people. The themes revolve around occupations, religious images, music, fashion designs, myths and folklores. Initially, when I was in college, the images recalled subconsciously. Recently, though, I make deliberate efforts to incorporate the familiar symbols and designs found in various traditional wears, musical instruments, carvings, and batik dyeing, in my artworks. The talking drums or the baritone igbin drums with their intricate carvings are much more than the sounds they produce. The formal elements expressed by the striped cords, and the wooden pegs that stretch the hide taut, beautifully illustrate graceful lines and textured organic shapes that end up as focal points in my works. Religious subjects from biblical stories are also a source of inspiration for my creative work. Though many of the stories can be narrative, I portray the images in stylized forms. The idea of stylizing started out as a way of getting kids to look for clues in solving puzzles about biblical personalities and events in our Children Ministry at church. It has since become another style of self-expression for me. ...

Richard Wynne - Richard is an acclaimed International Artist recently returned to the USA. Richard has lived in many Countries. "The last being Thailland. He started his art studies at a very young age at the John Herron Art Institute In Indianapolis, Indiana and then later at the Art Institute of Chicago Richard has lived in many countries, painting, and playing music. Mr Wynne has exhibited in Thailand, the United States, Spain, Argentina, Kuwait, Korea, Ihdia, and other Countries. Sometimes perhaps I say too much about my self but maybe it helps people understand what motivates my work. For your information I've lived in 8 different countries and have been around the world 5 times. I speak a few different languages, some very well; others not so well. By the way I am not a workaholic as I don't consider what I do work. I enjoy life too much. I forgot to say I am also a weight lifter as lifting weights is my Zen. When I am troubled the concentration it takes to lift makes me calm. I guess my page will probably be a little different from what people expect. Sorry I have not been uploading new work as ...

Joanna Glazer - The inner images and bold colours Joanna Ewa Glazer incorporates in her work convey a sense of abundance, total immersion into life and optimism. In her paintings, she creates a space of beauty and paradise in the way that shows resilience and strength regardless of circumstances. Each painting is like a poem , a life affirming experience." All her work is also about sense of identity, search for it and hints as to where to find it She finds her sources in fashion magazines, newspapers, books, art reviews, and advertising. Even a simple image in everyday newspapers may awaken emotion. Joanna Ewa Glazer has travelled and lived for long periods in numerous countries: Poland, France, Italy, Japan, USA, Belgium and UK. She was born in Gdansk (Poland).. ...

Lyudmila Kogan - My art is my diary a pictorial journal for painting discrete moments in time arranged by medium in which they are expressed. The medium spectrum runs from intuitive abstract expressions, to more complex reflections on daily events. Most of my art works are dedicated to abstract expressions of reality based on my personal reflections on life, environment, emotional expressions, and peoples characters. I am not concerned with the superficial and the obvious I try to capture the essence of a person, a moment, a state of mind, or an emotion. In my drawings I am not trying to imitate realistic attributes I am trying to mirror ones character as well as to express my own thoughts and feelings on the subject. Everything depends on what and when something caught my attention, made me think, or affected me. ...
