  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Richard Olmstead - Influenced by my art, design, and architecture background of the 50's-60's many of my works incorporate a modern style. Creating good design out of materials that were readily available was and remains a priority. Form, function, and appearance are important considerations of my work, which includes: buildings, paintings, furniture, jewelry, lighting, sculpture, set design, pottery, custom automobiles, and other applications. I believe in paying careful attention to the slightest detail and striving for perfection. Applying skills, talent, and imagination to materials transforms them to art. ...

Alan Cross - Alan Mark Cross Biography Alan Mark Cross was born in St.Johns, Quebec in 1949, and moved to Victoria, British Columbia, in 1956. Cross has a large following of patrons, and his works are in numerous private and corporate collections across Canada, the United States, Australia, Russia, Austria, Japan and England. There is a timeless quality to every Alan Mark Cross work of art. His paintings will always be in vogue; his impressionistic style coupled with an orderly use of colour will always demand attention. Largly self-taught, and in total command of his craft, Cross moves with the ease and grace of an athlete from one scene to another; from one mood to the next. "I was cursed from the start. Not only did I enjoy drawing, it turned out I had some talent too. And from an early start, I knew that my art had to do more than simply hang on a wall. I get an all consuming joy from my work. It moves me; it evokes emotion. I want others who take time to gaze at my work to feel something ~ passion, sentiment, wonder ~ perhaps some nostalgia." To feed his love for art, Cross laboured as ...

Lynn Millar - Resume: Lynn Millar Has been painting professionally in watercolor for 30 years. Lynn has had paintings juried into many shows as far west as Kansas and as far east as New York City. Lynn's work has been included in The Annual Pennsylvania Water Color Show, Philadelphia Watercolor Society and The Baltimore Watercolor Society as well as many other local and national competitions. She is currently showing in the Ambre' Studio gallery in Bethlehem, PA. Lynn Millar is a juried member artist in the Berks Arts Council's Gallery 20 and exhibits there regularly and is a signature member of Baltimore Watercolor Society....

Mukul Pipalia - From Chicago. Self taught. Love and enjoy painting. I mostly use chop sticks and knife and blades etc to layer paint on paper. As simple as that.. Most of my acrylics are done this way, non-brush method. Recently I got into watercolours and am kind of feeling forced into having to use brushes. We will see what happens next. As long as the Joy doesn't stop I will keep doing it, just like my other passion music. ...

Eduardo Diaz - Statement My name is Eduardo DIaz and Iim a Mexican artist residing in the Bay Area since 2001. In my work I express different elements of Mexican culture, while emphasizing its Native American heritage. I incorporate native themes and images, both extant and prehispanic, into my works and combine them with personal feelings, experiences or fears. Although cultural elements are the essence of my art, through them I also like to express political and social opinions. As a Mexican, I feel in touch with the problems at the Mexican-American border, as well as with the issues facing Mexican immigrants. I also like to express the tension between the indigenous and the industrialized worlds, and to analyze the different elements that make up Mexican identity, especially when confronted with life in a different country. My favorite medium is oil painting. I use vivid and deep colors, with which I reflect the light of the Mexican sun. Some of my compositions are figurative, and oscillate between realistic scenes and more elaborated images, with affinity to surrealism. My most recent productions are less figurative and combine the same vivid colors into expressive abstract constructions. Biography My name is Eduardo D...

Bob Cauley - For centuries masters of art have influenced pupils of study to expand upon style and skill. I have been most influenced by Jackson Pollock and the Impressionists. I mostly work in oils, usually mixing the paint on the canvas, not on the pallet. My abstracts give me a sense of freedon.. They are similar to Pollock's work with my own little twist, free-flowing paint and style. When I create a landscape, it gives me a place to escape from reality. I have had an interest in art since my childhood years. But I did not attempt to create my own works of art until the age of 38. My inspirations come from my dreams and my vivd imagination. I much enjoy creating my art pieces. When I am finished with a piece, a great sense of satisfaction follows. This is the very same feeling that comes over me when I see others enjoying and appreciating my art....

Jackie Simmons - I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. The first recognition I received was in the first grade, winning a local art contest for a Fire Safety poster. I have recently obtained a BA in Interior Design at Kent State University. Art and design are truly my passions. I love to create, and I love color! Hopefully that comes across in my work. I also do commissioned work, mostly portraits. It has been about 8 years since I last painted, however I am enjoying myself. I use any and all media, including ink, oil pastels, chalk, charcoal, and paints. I hope you see something you like!...

Jose Maria Casas - Jose Maria Casas is a young emerging artist from Mar del Plata, Argentina. He is studing Psycology at the National University of Mar del Plata (U.N.M.d.P.). He started to paint in 1993 after years of drawing and ceramics instruction. His instruction in paints continued until the end of 1997. After a silence period he started to paint again in June of the year 2000 and still doing so until today under the alias of "two-". He works primary with oilpaints, but his creation array expands from drawing and painting to digital art and photograpy. He works and creates from an absctract-conceptual-expressionist point of view with an special attention in the use of colours a forms and the balance and relationship within them. To generate a finished view of his aproach to art is essential to add to the above mix that he have minimalims influenses too. He is in love with the simple forms and compositions and the way they can trasmit a lot more than complex and overcharged desings. So if you can integrate his kandinsky-spiritual-philosophical aproach to colours and arts, his love for the expressionism of the simple forms and...

Jan Skorb - I think that it is an expression of soul searching and times of reflection.Sometimes leaving my thoughts and go where I've never been before.I'm fascinated by the world of the human heart and soul.Searching for gates that need to be opened, with a key,or without it.Sometimes one can open them easily, because they were opened, but one has to reach them first. That's why I'm always on my way....

Chad A. Carino - A quality which defines the life of any urban artist is the visible entropy surrounding us in the form of decay and despoilation of the desolation defining post-industrial urban America. Simply put, we live in darkness. This quality bends and controls me, defining my work, decaying into darkness and chaos. A solid idea will find itself dissolving into a series of dark scribbles, and a simple concept will belie its ultimate complexity. These images find themselves hovering between unconsiousness and depression; ultimately, cold, dark, and dead, like any planet or person....

Amanda Hubik - sometimes words aren't the right way to express emotions or feelings ... colours help to convey such things, as do shapes ... smooth lines, or hard edges ... abstract art, to me, is the most realistic and understandable way to transmit what is inside one person to another person. i paint in watercolours, acrylics, oils, and just recently gouache. i try not to limit myself, and have painted on paper, canvas, wood panel, and anything else that is within arm's reach! i am constantly searching for a way to create something new, something exciting, something unexpected and surprising. ...
